So just to give you an idea on how NOT to do laptop designs

I've been talking to AI a bit over the work I'm doing on my laptop. Asus G72Gx, a great gaming laptop but it has a TON of overheating problems. Naturally I had heat problems myself, so recently I decided I needed that laptop more than a romance life and started to get back to work on it. First off the CPU. Thermal paste was applied. Not much work. Learned I should get the old crap off too, which also included this gray crap that didn't seem to be thermal paste but hey, it worked!

CPU temps were down, but there were still problems. The GPU temp still decided that it liked 80 C idle temps. So I looked inside and saw that holy crap this is cramped but I see thermal pads. Decided to replace those because come on those pads are just stupid looking. Closed it up, looked at the temps. NOPE.

So yesterday I decided enough was enough and decided to dig in to the real problem: The graphics card itself. Problem? Minor one: I HAD TO DISSEMBLE THE ENTIRE ****ING THING. This wasn't just "Pry the back off bam now go get laid you handsome devil", oh no. First I get all the screws off, then I take off the keyboard. Next off goes the monitor! Don't forget those little connections, don't want to rip them do you? And then GOD DAMMIT the motherboard isn't coming out completely. Well fortune smiled upon me and I was able to get the video card or whatever you want to call it out, and lo and behold: Dried crap on the graphics card, ****ty looking thermal pads all around.

Dear Asus: **** you for this design. Yes I know it's a laptop, but goddamn.

I'm also making this topic in the vain hopes that 1) This fixes the problem once and for all (I assume it should since that dried up crap ain't gonna conduct much) and B) I can remember to connect all the wires and screw in all the screws giggity in the right areas. Not looking forward to putting the monitor back in, yeesh..
