Kiki's Delivery Service

Have you watched Kiki's Delivery Service?
Which are your favourite characters?

As is traditional for trainee witches, thirteen-year-old Kiki leaves home with her black cat, Jiji, with whom she talks. She flies on her broomstick to the port city of Koriko. While searching for somewhere to live, she is pursued by Tombo, a geeky boy obsessed with aviation who admires her flying ability.

In exchange for accommodation, Kiki helps Osono, a kindly and heavily pregnant bakery owner. She opens a "Witch Delivery Business", delivering goods by broomstick. Her first delivery goes badly; she is caught in a gust of wind and drops the black cat toy she is supposed to deliver. While she searches for it, Jiji pretends to be the toy at the recipient's house. She finds the toy in the cabin home of a young painter, Ursula, who mends and returns it to Kiki so she can complete the delivery and rescue Jiji.

She lives in the clouds and talks to the birds...

Great movie.

Fathom put on a showing in Milwaukee a couple years back one Sunday. My sister and the kids were home, I had the day off. I'd promised to take them to the movies, and was secretly dreading whichever nightmarish Toy Story or Ice Age sequel I'd have to sit through------------so when Sis mentioned 'Kiki' was on, I leapt for it. Sometimes heaven smiles on us poor sinners.

...none of them had seen it before. I think they liked it. I hope they did.

Delightful film.
Apparently the ending is slightly different depending on which translation you watch. I prefer the Kirsten Dunst/Phil Hartman dub.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Spoiler.
I forget--------that's the ending where Jiji talks again at the end, right? I do like that ending.

...I don't know which version I prefer. The tone is very, very slightly altered. I suppose there are deeper implications? Things that I would be thinking of if I'd watched 'Kiki's Delivery Service' over and over again as a child, like a psychopath?

...I didn't.

...I watched 'The Last Unicorn'.

I vaguely remember this, I think. I'll have to watch it (again?) but Studio Ghibli is always at least decent.

It's a good movie.

Most of the time I advocate for subtitles, but the dub is good, too. Sometimes on a rainy day you miss Phil Hartman. I get it, man-----no judgments here.
