Hey, how about this crazy idea:

Let's talk about Final Fantasy IX because it's awesome.

No "Loss of Me/Rose of May," "Melodies of Life," "A Place to Call Home," or "Dark Messenger?" Really? That list is far incomplete.

Though, overall, IX had an amazing soundtrack.

Oh, and yeah.

Dark Messenger is easily the best song in FFIX.

Or maybe in FF in general, I just really love DM.

^The first time I heard that song, I just kind of let the game sit there while I totally rocked out to it. Once I was done, I went back to saving the world. :p

Protecting My Devotion.

I didn't like the version at the end, but the motif is good.
ZeldaGirl wrote:"A Place to Call Home,"
The overtures are always beautiful, but they've never been my favorite songs from the games.

Is that Kuja's theme? -CSM

Not as good. NOWHERE NEAR.

I am not either. You need to get the piano soundtracks - the piano version is absolutely gorgeous and moving.

Is that Kuja's theme? -CSM
Technically, Kuja's theme is just Kuja's Theme (another EXCELLENT track - pure villainy, it is). "Dark Messenger" is what plays during the FINAL battle with Kuja - it's totally rocked out and amazing!

^You are wrong. So wrong. There is nothing that can match the beautiful simplicity of the piano. It is so full of emotion, and so completely captures FFIX's characters. Not saying that Protecting my Devotion isn't good (it IS), but the original is far superior.

FF9 indeed has the best overall musical score, but Dancing Mad is still the best song in the series

To Far Away Times is the best song ever written for any game, but FFIX has by FAR THE BEST OVERALL SOUNDTRACK for any game, let alone sound period. It was Final Fantasy's last hurrah at a truly perfect soundtrack (this includes voice acting and sound effects). -CSM

You know, for some reason I don't remember being blown away by FF9's soundtrack. There are a few songs that I remember really liking, like You Are Not Alone and Beatrix's Theme, but I don't remember much else leaving an impression on me.

I think FF9 was just completely soured in my brain since I lost my data when I was on Disc 3. I could just never get into it again after that. I didn't fully beat it until after I beat FFX.

Anyway, my favorite FF soundtrack is still FF8. And I like CC's music better than all of them.

I really should replay one of those RPGs again from the beginning... FF9, FF8 or CC. It's been years since I've played any of them.-jay

The odd thing is that RPGs starting with FF7 I've never replayed. I play them once, and never touch them again.

Which is really strange, considering that I've replayed FF4, FF6 and CT, like, a billion times.

Or maybe it's not strange, since all of these new games suck.-jay

This thread is really making me want to play this game.

Video game music has a waaaay larger effect on me than it should... :D
