Vaan looks like a cross between Zidane and Tidus in this one. That's really bad. Really, really bad. Beyond "Jay thinks it sucks" bad.

That on top of the fact that it's bound to be another crappy spinoff (FFX-2 bit the big one, and I've heard so many bad things about DoC).

The one good looking thing about it is at least it's an actual RPG.-CSM

The character design is interesting, and I'm wondering what Fran and Balthier will look like (since supposedly they are both in this game as well).

Yeah. I don't think that game has any hope.

I actually kind of enjoyed DoC. It wasn't mindblowing, but it was fun.

And at least FFX-2 had sluts in skimpy clothes.

Vaan is simply the worst character ever made. And he wears a bro.-jay

Honestly, Tidus and Yuna were worse. I'm not defending Vaan, it's like really sucky and really really sucky.

And still, it's not as bad as sluts in skimpy clothes. -CSM

Yeah... Final Fantasy stopped being good after 7, with exception to 9

^Are you saying 7 was good? And 12 isn't? Excuse me? 12 beats the ****-pouring ass off of FF7. FF7 was pretty lame. It tried too hard to be 'lol edgee' and for that simple reason loses points in my eyes. Besides, Sephiroth started that damned pretty-boy trend in the FF series. That just makes him suck even worse. Yeah, I know, he has 'teh beeg sord lol", but that doesn't count for much of anything.

Anyway, Revenant Wings looks... Interesting.

I liked both 7 AND 12. Although, to be fair, I have not yet finished 12, so I cannot really make a good comparison, but yes, I like both. It's not a crime.

Revenant Wings will not do justice to FFXII, I predict. But, of course, we shall see.

I liked VII as well, but not in the way its fans do. It's nowhere near as good as the pre-VII games. -CSM

Meh, all of the FFs are pretty subjective.

Me, I though 7 was fun but is overrated now. I never got into 9 (cute game but lacking in many areas). I liked 8 a lot and think it's underrated (although I may just like it because it's neglected, heh). I actually enjoyed 10 for the most part (although I have no idea why in retrospect). As for the pre-7 games, I really didn't like 5 at all, 4 was good, but not mindblowing, and you all probably know my opinion already on 6. I never really played the first 3, I started the first but never got around to finishing it.)

I'll have to withhold any ultimate judgement on 12 until after I beat the bloody thing (I just finished the Shineshire or whatever it's called. Balthier is at level 42 and Fran is still at level 11. I find that very funny for some reason.)-jay

It doesn't look terrible. I don't know if it will totally not live up to FFXII or not. I'll say something on that once I finish FFXII and play this.

I saw Fran and Balthier in a trailer for it, and they looked chibified. The style of the characters reminds me of the FFIII remake. Except, RW style doesn't make me think of Precious Moments figurines.

It's funny that you say "The one good looking thing about it is at least it's an actual RPG." after you mention X-2.

DoC isn't that bad. If you can manage the controls, it's an easy game to beat, even on Ex Hard mode. Assuming you don't bash your head into your TV waiting for the cutscenes to end. Though, honestly, why would anyone be playing DoC for anything other than the story?

^^I really liked FF10, but never got into 8. I really liked 9, although I found 10 to be more exciting. I enjoyed Tactics a lot too.

My Balthier is about 3 levels ahead of everyone else, just because I refuse to take him out of my party because:

1) He steals for me, and it gives me lotsa money money money
2) Manages to kick ass with any weapon he uses
3) He is totally hot *spastic fangirl moment*

Everyone else is pretty even so far (I enjoy using Fran, she's my black/green/arcane mage). Of course, I am finding I spend a lot of time hunting rather than actually progressing the story. I'm sure I'll finish it eventually.

^If Balthier is in Revenant Wings, then I suppose it can't be all bad. :o

But, seriously, I have to question the developers: Why, if they created a character so cool, so badass, so hot *fangirl spasm* as Balthier, did they even bother creating someone so lame as Vaan?

^ Yeah, that's basically what I feel about Balthier, except without all of the spastic fangirlism.

Maybe it's more of a mancrush.

He's simply so cool. And he has the best dialogue for a FF character that I've ever seen.

But I do have Balthier auto-stealing everything in sight. It's rather handy.

See, I don't even see that as a reason to use Fran. I just have Ashe as my Ultra-mage. She learns everything.

Plus, I generally don't use black magic in these games anyway.

I also see no reason for using Panelo. I haven't taught her a thing. Don't use her. Most pointless FF character EVER. Even more pointless than Quina.

So I mainly use just Balthier, Basch and Ashe. I mean...what's the point of using other characters? I've been keeping Vaan's level up too, just so I have a backup 4th character. But otherwise, I just use the same three (rotating Basch and Vaan).

For a while I just had Basch as my heavy-weapons dude, but I eventually caved and taught him white magic, so I have someone to back up Ashe.

And yeah, I have no idea what's going on in the main story, and have almost stopped caring. I spend most of my time on hunts.

I'm not really impressed with the story so far anyway. And besides Balthier, the characters are dull or annoying or both.-jay

As a balance obviously. Ya know, yin and yang. For every good, there must be an evil. For every feminine protagonist, there must be a badass pimp.

...I need to equip Balthier with a staff of some sort now.

I try to balance all of the characters, since I like all of them. They're all 21-22 and I'm currently at the Miriam Stillshrine. ...Coincidentally, I'm getting my ass handed to me a lot.

^I'm still on the Ozmone Plains, and my characters are 25+, but I'm still leveling so that I can go on more difficult hunts while I have a fourth character in my party (Larsa - where the hell do all those hi-potions come from? Oh well, they help a bunch). So, yeah.

As far as story line goes, I'm not far enough in the game to actually know a lot yet, but the game is extremely enjoyable away from the plot. I actually like the battle system a lot.

Oh, and I concur with Jay, Balthier's dialogue is amazing:
Spoiler.

Balthier: (as bodies fly around him) I always knew Fran never liked being tied up. I just never realized how much. (turns to Ashe) How about you?

The fangirl in me almost died at that double entendre.

And of course, his leading man lines amuse me so much.

Oh, and Ashe is pretty cool too. She's certainly bitchy, but she totally whips Vaan ("don't interrupt me"). It's nice to see that the heroine isn't sunshine and daisies (Yuna, Garnet).
Spoiler.
Oh, and she totally bitchslapped Basch. That's my kind of girl!

Yeah, that was hilarious. I died almost instantly in the following fight, and had to watch the cutscence again. Yay! ^^

I can't help but wonder if she's not getting cold in the Paramina Rift.

I'm at the last part of the game.
The characters I use are Vaan (level 53), he's my super buff d00d. Knows White magic just in case. I usually have him use 2-handed swords. Fran (50), she mostly uses spears or bows. She has teh awzum blk mgc. And I control Ashe (59) as the healer because shes awesome. She knows every magic spell there is so she's uber kewl. I usually skip the cutscenes so I don't know what the hell is going on. I just know theres magicite and nethicite.

That's it. That post made me lose all interest in this game.

I'm going to start up Xenosaga 3.-jay

As much as I dislike some of the characters, I'm making sure my entire team is balanced just in case I need to make an emergency switch (last second quickening) or something. But Balthier, Basche and Ashe are still the fighters I prefer to have out the most.

Bah. I was being too hard on 7. Admittedly, I used to sing its praises. Then I realized that they could have done MUCH better on the graphics considering their later PS1 entries. Still, I'm not overly fond of 7...

FF9 has always been my favorite for a likely biased reason: It was the first FF I played. I got so into the characters and different quirks that it quickly was poured into my mind as a favorite video game. For that simple, probably stupid reason, I never expect much from the other games and my opinion on them becomes a bit lower than most.

I haven't played much of 12 recently. Too many new games to play, some of which I haven't even opened yet. I was level 20-something, I believe right before you fight Ghis on that airship...

Anyway, FF12 Revenant Wings looks pretty pathetic, and I believe that good-ol' Squeenix shoulda learned that direct Final Fantasy sequels are a new definition to "fail". Either way, it'll probably find its fans... Somehow.

^^ I agree... I like having a balanced team, just in case. Balthier, Ashe, and Basch are my main characters, with Vaan having a lot of white magic just in case, but I have Fran and Penelo cast black/arcane magic, which is useful at times.

^ FF9 was the first I played as well. But, I like 10 much better when it came out, and then I played 7 (and I really loved that game). But I am loving 12 right now.
