5) Yesterday - I watched it with my in-laws today. We're doing what's become an annual beach vacation. I think they do a good job mining the premise for comedy, and I enjoyed that. That's kinda built on the scaffolding of a pretty standard love story plot. Like Groundhogs Day, it doesn't bother addressing why a magic thing happened to the main character.

Ah, I see.

Tom Arnold's a funny comic actor-------------really liked him in 'True Lies' (liked pretty much everyone in that, actually).
Yeah, that's a great film, like almost all Schwarzenegger films from the late 80's - early 00's.

So, I watched KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! Legend of Crimson. It's hilarious like the TV show, which is my only criticism, it feels more like a long episode than a film. But you know, seeing as how good the show is I'm not complaining.

6. Inside Out 2 was really good. I got a little misty a couple of times. My daughter really enjoyed it. She was cracking up, especially at Embarrassment.

So I saw the Rifftrax versions of 'Jack The Giant Killer' and 'Samurai Cop'.

'Jack the Giant Killer' is a fun movie---------I love these incredibly imaginative fantasy movies, with all the extremely lo-fi special effects. Stop-motion and rotoscope aren't bad, it's what they had. I loved the flick, at any rate. Recognised one of the actors----------character actor guy I'd seen in about a hundred different TV and movie westerns. Commented it was a little funny to see him wearing tights, and my ma pointed out that anyone who made a living as an actor in those days probably cut his teeth on Shakespeare, and I felt dumb. She wasn't being mean, Ma's Socratic as all get-out.

Then along came 'Samurai Cop', which is like "Imagine if 'Lethal Weapon' were stupid and didn't make sense". I can see enjoying it(?), sort of, but...why not watch 'Lethal Weapon'? 'Lethal Weapon' is good.

Like, there is no better version of 'Jack the Giant Killer', or of 'Giant Spider Invasion', or of 'Miami Connection'. Godzilla movies are inherently silly. So yeah, Rifftrax and MSTie ahoy. But right in the Rifftrax of 'Samurai Cop', Mike and co. reference 'Lethal Weapon', and I felt a little bad for laughing at these poor dorks trying to make their own stupid-ass inept 'Lethal Weapon'. I don't know.

44) The Woman in Black - D+. Good cast, terrible script, annoying effects.
45) 13 Ghosts (1960) - C+. Charming, decently suspenseful, clever twist.
46) A Quiet Place: Part II - A-. Smart plotting, strong character work, great visually.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

7) DBS: Broly was not all that interesting. Seems like it mostly exists to explain who Broly is in case they want to do something interesting with him later.

^ Much like the old Broly movie and most other DB films it's mostly just flashy fighting. One of the few exceptions to that is Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. It's a lot more like a regular movie.

I preferred Broly though because the fight was amazing. I just didn't like that Broly was helpless once Gogeta went full power, they should've made him get at least one good hit in.

I'm given to understand that, in one of his movies, Broly licks a lolly. Confirm/deny?

...sorry. I was making a dumb 'Electric Company' joke.

Oh, I don't really know Electric Company. More of a Sesame Street and Mister Rogers' Neighborhood childhood.

It's alright, man, nobody knows everything.

That girl in the thumbnail is Rita Moreno. It's kind of funny to see a sex kitten like her in an innocent children's edutainment thing.

8) They had Shaolin Soccer as an option on my flight. I really like Kung Fu Hustle, so I checked it out. I think Kung Fu Hustle is better, but there are a lot of fun characters and cartoon action in this one too.

Rifftrax just put out their take on 'Undefeatable'. Great stupid movie--------------I love Cynthia Rothrock, and it's got that insanely idiotic fight scene at the end.

Only gripe is that 'undefeatable' isn't a real word, for crying out loud---------------we have the word 'indefatigable' for a reason. Is this one of those things where they were worried Americans were too stupid to know that word?

Kenneth Branagh has a funny anecdote---------------apparently when he was shopping 'Henry V' around to American distributors, some of them were concerned that goofball Americans would think it was a later sequel to something. Asked him to consider calling it 'Henry the Fifth' or 'Shakespeare's Henry V' or some such. I mean, you can't really blame them-------------if the Times were showing a double feature of 'Rocky' and 'Police Academy', and the Rosebud had 'Rocky V' and 'Police Academy VI', I would absolutely not be going to the Rosebud.

I think Rocky V is a little underrated, but it's the worst of the originals for sure.

I dang sure wouldn't watch it on the big screen before I saw any of the first four. At least the first one is still on my bucket list (first 'Rocky', 'Conan the Barbarian', 'Fifth Element', 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly', 'Untouchables' and 'Last Unicorn'. I'm crossin my fingers and wishin on a star, for all that that helps).

It's a frigged-up kind of world where a fellow can see Uwe Boll movies on the silver screen, and not 'Conan'.

9) I watched Fargo on the plane back from Utah. Frances McDormand is so good in it. And William H. Macy manages to play a super unlikable character from a direction you don't see much.

I've liked all 4 Coen Brothers movies I've seen now. I should check out a few more. Definitely had 'No Country for Old Men on my list for a while.

^Ooh, yes, do watch that, absolutely. It's a sad scary movie, but definitely the best movie from that year. (I don't mean that just on the basis of it winning Best Picture at the Oscars. It is that in my opinion.) (Man, I'm sorry if you never get to see it in the theatre. Theatre is such a good experience, and especially for movies like 'No Country' where there's like two other people. Maybe watch it on the weekend one night after your family is in bed, turn the lights down low, queue it on the big teevee in the living room).

What other Coen flicks have you seen? Can I make some recommendations? If you haven't seen 'Big Lebowski' or 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?', either of those might be the perfect thing for chasing the terrible sorrow of 'No Country For Old Men' out your head.

I like you, Deku, my friend. I like it when you're happy.
