24) Castle in the Sky was alright. The airships looked great. I also liked the robots.

25) I think I liked Spirited Away better than Castle in the Sky. I have trouble connecting with these Studio Ghibli movies for some reason. They have some beautifully animated, visually interesting and memorable scenes, but there's something about the way they tell stories I have a hard time with.
Do people compare this movie to Alice in Wonderland?

Re: 100 Movies for 2020!!!
^Yeah, I've heard people make that comparison.
I liked 'Castle in the Sky' better than 'Spirited Away', myself. It's kind of 'Castle of Cagliostro' times 'Girl Genius'. Good biz.

110) Booksmart - A-. Ah, so that's who Kaitlin Dever is, cool. Very clever & worthwhile Superbad remake.
111) D2: The Mighty Ducks - B+

26) I'm not sure how I went so long not knowing about Akira, but I saw ads that it was getting re-released in Cinemark theaters and it looked interesting. It was pretty awesome. Stylish as hell. Hard to believe it's almost as old as I am. There's a lot of pop culture clearly inspired by this movie, but I'm particularly enjoying the thought that someone consciously decided to make Akira inspired Pokemon.

^Man, you lucked out. I'd love to see 'Akira' in-theatre. Don't see anywhere nearby showing it.
I saw 'Akira' for the first time when I was in fifth grade (Blockbuster wasn't real discerning----------"hey, it's a cartoon, put it in with all the others". Poor dopes.)

Oh, I was unclear. That ad just piqued my interest. I watched it on Hulu.

^Ah.
Still, though.
I picked up the Blu-ray remaster when it came out. Still haven't watched it-------------last time I saw 'Akira' was on Hulu, too.

I still need to watch Akira.
And Castle of Cagliostro. And The Last Unicorn. And The Iron Giant. And The Illusionist. And Mary and Max. And about a hundred other animated films.

27) I've wanted to watch Eighth Grade for a while, but I hadn't been up for something as heavy as I was thinking it would be. It's somewhat heavy, but more hopeful than I feared. Really easy to relate to the movie as a dad who has his daughter's teenage years to look forward to.

Re: 100 Movies for 2020!!!
112) Enola Holmes - B+. Dialogue needs some tweaking, & there are some very unnecessary & pretty ugly CGI shots.
113) Beetlejuice - A
114) Superman (1978) - A-
115) Batman (1989) - A-
116) The Dark Knight - A
117) Aquaman - B+
118) Batman (1966) - A-
119) The Scream Team - B-. Solid for a Disney Channel original.
120) The Haunting - C. Waffles between predictable & absurd, & is silly both ways; earns its Razzie noms for screenplay & vfx. Does not earn its Razzie noms for acting; the cast was fine.
121) Are You Afraid of the Dark? (2019) - B+. This was genuinely good, with very likeable child actors playing very rounded characters. The Midnight Society still has a Canadian basic cable budget, though.

29) Borat Subsequent Moviefilm was pretty funny, but I was expecting more from it after what he pulled off with Who is America.

Re: 100 Movies for 2020!!!
Sis put on 'Hubie Halloween' for the family the other night. It was alright. I'm not the biggest fan of Adam Sandler flicks, but this was a lot closer to 'Happy Gilmore' than 'Pixels', if that's any kind of recommendation.
We've been watching the MIB flicks with the kids. I'd never seen MIB3 before. I liked it a lot. I wasn't expecting it to be any good (usually an unexpected sequel ten years later winds up being a pathetic cash-grab), but this was good. Still not holding out any hope for 'MIB International', though.
Last night Sis and I watched 'The Good Boys', a movie I'd never heard of. Kind of a goofy coming-of-age adventure, in the vein of 'Goonies' or 'Superbad'. I thought it was pretty funny.

The Netflix movie 'Klaus' is good. It's fun and silly, and the animation is gorgeous, and I like it lots.

Re: 100 Movies for 2020!!!
122) Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire - B-
123) Phantom of the Megaplex - B
124) Cry Baby Lane - B+
125) The Nightmare Before Christmas - A-
126) Hocus Pocus - A-
127) Holidate - B. This was SO CLOSE to the A- range, but for a couple cringey moments.
128) Fantastic Four (2015) - D-. Better than I thought it would be....which is faint praise since I still gave it a D-.

Re: 100 Movies for 2020!!!
So I got a chance to see Tomm Moore's new flick 'Wolfwalkers' in-theatre today, and I went for it. It was really terrific.
...each time I see an old-timey animated film on the big screen, I wonder if it'll be the last time.

30) Terminator: Dark Fate was okay. The story was pretty good. I liked the action, except the plane fight was mostly over the top for my tastes. The plot twist was annoyingly obvious, since nobody even questions the assumption they're making the whole time. The acting wasn't always super convincing.

129) Last Christmas - C+. Good characters, but the twist is ridiculous, & I freaking hate that song.
130) Horse Feathers - A-
131) Lilo & Stitch - A
I just found out that Lilo & Stitch was edited to turn the dryer into a table with a pizza box under it, & apparently it's been that way since the 2nd printing of the DVD. Good thing I have the 1st printing.
