I'm pretty sure the entire back row of the theater I saw it in was drunk (understandable) because by Magical Mister Mistoffelees they were clapping along in beat to the song and cheering at everything. Literally hollered when Idris Elba got tap danced off the plank. I was completely sober but joined in because it was incredible

I saw it absolutely loaded and it felt like an out-of-body experience

The next day I had to look the movie up to assure myself I didn't imagine "Bustopher Jones" and "Jennyanydots"

2) Disturbia - B+. Better than I expected. But then again, how bad can Rear Window get?

Also, I know it's a Disney movie and annoying sidekicks are inevitable but I want Josh Gad to go away.
I don't like Olaf, but I'm a lot less bothered by his personality than by his appearance. It's one of the most bafflingly hideous character designs I've ever seen.

capt please my sisters and i watched the VHS on literal repeat in the 90's. we got super lucky during a trip to NY and went to a behind the scenes CATS workshop on Broadway. i LOVE CATS. it's still weird as ****, and this particular adaptation is **** weird as all **** ****. this adaptation is a goldmine because it has no right to exist. i want more bonkers ass ideas like this in 2020 it's the only truly interesting movie hollywood has made in the last 5 years

^^He's ugly 'cause he's an unnatural shape for a snowman; nobody would ever make a snow head with an overbite if they didn't have magic perfect-ice-sculpting powers.

Elsa wanted him to look like that.

...what the hell is wrong with her. Is she trying to hurt the world in retribution for cursing her with ice powers? Is that why she made the scary nightmare devil hell doom evil snow golem? To frighten children and murder innocent sleep? Ish da. What's her deal, man? Why is she such a gross creep?

Why didn't she just make Olaf look like the Medic? The Medic has great character design.

It's such an obvious move.

3) Easy A - A
4) The Fault in Our Stars - B+
5) The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part - B-. Still good, still clever, & very interesting choice of themes, but does not hold a candle to the first.
6) Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors - B-. I liked the Marvel Rising webisodes, so I decided to finally watch the rest of it, & I'm not disappointed so far. Definitely kiddie fare, but it brings in some major themes from Agents of SHIELD (& Chloe Bennet is still Quake, despite being a different continuity), & it's getting me even more hyped for the Ms. Marvel series.
7) A Night at the Opera - A

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

2) I just watched Logan Lucky. I kinda loved it. The cast is great (except Seth MacFarlane playing Seth MacFarlane with a half-assed wig and mustache?), and Adam Driver is especially funny. I like how much of the movie you're not sure if their plan is clueless or inspired.

Let me try to think of all the movies I've seen so far...

1) Underwater - it's like Alien, but... underwater and not as good. Not a bad movie, but it just kind of exists. It was apparently shelved for a few years and it kinda shows. 2/5

2) Little Women - the new one with Emma Watson. I thought it was really good! I've never seen any other adaptations or read the book though. A lot of people didn't like that it uses extended flashback sequences, but I thought it was easy to follow. 4/5

3) Weathering with You - saw this dubbed. Really liked it. The cat was super cute. 4/5

8) Aladdin (2019) - A-. They put in the work on this one; I'm really bummed it got overshadowed by terrible boring "live" Lion King.
9) Bride of the Monster - D. Standard-issue Ed Wood fare, digested via MST3K.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

I re-watched Cats (2019) which prompted me to then watch Cats (1998) again for the first time in like 15 years.

Cats 2019: Honestly even better the second time. I already knew exactly what to expect so I was just enjoying the ride the entire time. I had also re-watched Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer from the 1998 production so I knew that it was just a different version of the song entirely, which made me able to enjoy it without going "why tf dont i recognize this song excuse me??"

i also knew to prepare for the memory reprise harmony to be horrible and sung by someone who can't hit the notes. you clearly cast someone as victoria for the ballet, so WHY did you give her a song she didn't originally have that she can't hit, and then write a WHOLE NEW bad song she ALSO can't hit? incredible

We got the theater clapping along to Magical Mister Mistoffelees again. Based. Still the most fun I've had in theaters in years, still my new favorite movie honestly. I am thankful it exists.

Cats 1998: HOOOOOOOOOOOOOLY **** I HAVEN'T SEEN THIS SINCE I WAS LIKE TEN AND I FORGOT WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO HEAR THESE SONGS PERFORMED BY PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE VOCAL CHORDS TO JUST ABSOLUTELY KILL THEM. DAMN. THIS SOUNDTRACK WAS ALREADY LIT BUT IT IS JUST FIRE FROM START TO END WHEN PERFORMED BY BROADWAY STARS

AND THE COSTUMING AND SET DESIGN??? SOOOO GOOOOOOOOD

Also, watching the original again gives me the following to say about the adaptation:

- it was really, really rude to rob us of flamboyant power couple David Bowie Rum Tum Tugger x Sparkle Chad Twink Mistoffelees and give us uwu shy soft boy boring disney big nose boy archetype mistoffelees.

- jennyanydots in the og is SOOOO good like damn those harmonies are incredible. the movie version is extremely memorable for very different ways but musically it sucks so hard lololol

- WHEN I WAS 8 I REALLY LIKED VICTORIA AND I JUST WANT TO SAY 8YO ME IS VALID, VICTORIA IS COOL BECAUSE SHE JUST SHOWS UP AND FLEXES ON EVERYONE WITH AN INSANELY DIFFICULT BALLET SOLO AND THEN DOESNT SING ANYTHING BUT IS SUPER MEMORABLE ANYWAY BY BEING STARK WHITE. i was pretty sure she didn't have some tragic orphan backstory but thought maybe i forgot it. no it was just hollywood being hollywood

- seriously stage play mistoffelees exudes the kind of energy i want to embody

- we were robbed of the great munkustrap in the adaptation

- i know andrew lloyd weber loves rewriting his own **** but the version of mungojerrie and rumpelteazer in the 98 stage play is SOOOO much better. honestly both versions are good but that performance is just INCREDIBLE

- I NEED EVERYONE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT SKIMBLESHANKS THE RAILWAY CAT IS HONESTLY ON PAR IF NOT SLIGHTLY BETTER IN THE MOVIE WITH ABSOLUTELY LIT SOUND DESIGN AND INTERESTING CINEMATOGRAPHY AND THAT IF THE ENTIRE MOVIE HAD THE KIND OF ENERGY THAT SKIMBLESHANKS THE RAILWAY CAT DOES IT WOULD HAVE BEEN UNIRONICALLY **** STELLAR

3) Watched the new Aladdin. I'm pretty cynical about Disney churning out remakes of all the old films whether they have anything new ideas for the adaptation or not, but this one is well put together. Jafar and Abu pale in comparison to their cartoon counterparts, but the rest of the characters are pretty good. Will Smith way exceeded my expectations. The big dance numbers were fun, impressive spectacles.
