Poor design choices?
Rushing to finish instead of delaying release?
Deeply disturbing comparisons between Sonic & realistic humans?
This movie is Sonic 06.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

I won't take this Sonic 06 slander. Sonic 06 had Silver and an interesting story with time travel and a good Shadow arc.

I'll give you "a good Shadow arc"; it did have that.

Watch, they probably only need to edit like, 15-20 minutes of the actual movie.

This is probably like those Michael Bay movies where the transformers are in for only like, 15-20 minutes while most of it is about the soap opera-like stuff with the people. Or that Boris&Natasha movie they made like, how many years ago?

They didn't quite get Sonic's personality right. Looks better, sure, but where's the cockiness, the attitude, the snark? He's more like a coked up kid with ADHD now.

I dunno if the coked up ADHD kid thing is more how they wrote him, or just the pace of the trailer. In any case, I'm still really excited to see this film.

Ben Schwartz's voice still feels pretty 'tude-less compared to literally any of Sonic's previous VAs, from games or Sonic X or Jaleel White.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Yeah, I'm noticing a distinct lack of 'tude in this iteration of Sonic.

The new model is an immense improvement, though.

I'm absolutely seeing this movie because I want to support the immense effort that went into re-doing the entire **** movie to make it not terrible. Apparently Tyson Hesse was taken on to lead the new design. It shows.

This honestly gives me hope somehow because like... here we have a product that looked bad, received backlash, and was delayed and took on new talent to better itself. That **** doesn't happen often. Look at the Pokemon **** storm - I'm NOT saying people aren't perfectly allowed to be excited, but a LOT of criticisms are justified yet execs at GF and TPC would rather die than delay the game to make it better.

I know the situations are different but I still think this is a really miraculous turnaround and I really want to support it. I'm very excited to watch this in theaters, I think it'll be very mediocre and very fun.

Which is utterly bizarre, given that the usual Nintendo mindset is the exact opposite.

I don't think they're technically part of Nintendo though, I know they're partially owned it something but behave fairly independently. They make their own games for other systems and even publish Pokemon games on mobile without anything to do with Nintendo. I thought it was interesting that Pokemon Duel didn't have Nintendo's name anywhere, wasn't on any of their pages, or supported by MyNintendo with bonuses like Fire Emblem and Mario are (to my dismay when I was still playing it, before they ruined that game too). This is probably mostly their own bad decision.

GF and Nintendo (along with Creatures) are equal-part owners of the Pokemon Company, which is the company that owns Pokemon.

Do you (or anyone else here) happen to know more about what went on when they transitioned? Like how exactly it happened? Did the people who work on the original movie Sonic end their contract/quit and then the producers hired new people? Was it mostly the same people who worked on the original and then had to work overtime to redesign the whole thing? A mix of both? Etc.

My one concern was if animators/artists were being treated poorly with unpaid overtime, or basically being taken advantage of. I've no idea how the whole thing works behind the scenes, whether they were contractors or full-time employees. I just wanted to know more into the story because a part of me felt wrong in wanting to enjoy something if it meant someone had to suffer poor work conditions and is probably hating their entire life right now on our account.

Also, just more of a curious note, did some actors have to reshoot scenes? I think James Marsden is wearing a different shirt in the car scene than in the first trailer. Like were there scenes where they just replaced the old Sonic with the new and kept everything else in the scene the same? Or maybe they only did that for a few scenes while others were reshot?

^ It should have an interesting special features section when it comes out on Blu-Ray, seems like it will have an interesting story behind it.

(as somebody who heavily follows rap music i have no idea who the last artist in the video is but he looks like an snl parody of a soundcloud rapper)
