Hopefully he'll go easy on you. Like Saria said, just write a well thought out letter explaining what happened and that you cleaned it up, and it'll go smoothly.

Heck if i got fired for eveytime i made horrible messes id be out of works 5 times over, here are some aftermaths from some incidents:

Pulling up a 18 tons excavator from a svamp i got stuck in
I almost tipped down into a river canyon
and this is just what there is photoproof from!
You have a really harsh boss if he fires you for this, accidents happend damnit if you clean up after them it's ok!
Beep Boop absolutely not a bot!

The ****??? You must have a hardass of a boss. Is there anyone you can maybe stay with to help yourself financially? Like maybe your parents? I'd have personally complained to the person above the foreman about this. You cleaned up your mess. I'm sorry man :-/

Was it a "I can't believe you did that! You're fired." type of deal, or was it the "We hate to inform you this, but we're going to have to let you go."?

Damn dude, sorry to hear what happened. I hope you don't get fired. I don't see why you'd get fired for your first mistake, it was an honest mistake. Hopefully he/she will be cool about it if you admit that you screwed up, and it won't happen again/. Coming up with an excuse will only be just another excuse, no matter what happened, but, as long as you can acknowledge that you messed up, hopefully everything will be cool. Best of luck to you dude.

Rule number one is to never make mistakes. Rule number two is to admit nothing and deny everything. Rule number three is that there are no guarantees that the first two will work.
