Person A: Wow, eel sounds like it would be delicious.
Person B: I've had it before, it's pretty good.
Person A: I'll have to try it sometime.

---TWO MONTHS LATER---

Person A: Oh man, I tried eel last week. It was spectacular.
Person B: SEE? I TOLD YOU SO!!!
Person A: I never doubted it would be, mother****er, so shut your smug mouth up.

(Note: This particular example did not happen in my life. I've been eating eel for years.)

Yeah, I don't think person B means to be smug but "See? I told you so" is rude anyway.

Well, maybe person B does mean to be rude.

Yeah, saying "I told you so" is usually a crappy thing to say. I avoid it as much as possible and have to keep all of my smug superiority to myself. It turns out everybody hates it when you say that you're better than they are, especially when you're not.

I dislike any condescending statement whatsoever. This is one of the worst.

Obligatory ironic smart-ass comment

Condescending means that they're talking down to you.

I actually do quite like that song, Karg. Thanks for reminding me.

I can't hear that song without wanting to immediately follow it up with "Fell in Love with a Girl."

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

You have other options.

Scenario 1:

"Oh man, I tried eel last week. It was spectacular."

"SEE? I TOLD YOU SO!!!"

"...You did? I don't remember you telling me anything."

Scenario 2:

"Oh man, I tried eel last week. I saw that it was spectacular, like you told me it would be."

Extra jackass points if they follow through anyway.

I'd say something like, "Yeah, you did. How about that?"
