I was put into a position where I watched Twilight.

yes twilight is bad trashy teen girl bait but there no reason to rage so much over it. some people like read dumb vampire novels that have nothing in common with the orginal subject material, some people read dumb escapist fantasy, some people read clancy novels, some people go to see the last airbender - people have been reading ****ty books and watching ****ty movies since the begining of time. or rather, the beginning of those mediums.

what im getting at is why does everyone hate twilight so much specifically, its not even the first ****ty book/movie to become popular.

e: also, lol at the people who think bella is a mary sue, how about a manipulative mastermind that sucked that poor gay vampire into the cyclone of... whatever happened later in the book, i never got that far before i decided to just blindly agree with internet that the book is ****.

I've never found anyone IRL who was indifferent to Twilight. I think a lot of people who hate it are simply trying to rebel against the popular opinion by having the exact opposite one. They've actually convinced themselves that they hate Twilight. What they don't realize, however, is that half the teenage population is doing the same thing In doing so, Twilight hating becomes the new popular thing, thus, they become they're own enemy.

Also, the movie casting sucks. Other than that, I feel no love or hate for the series.

I actually have read the first one, and I did not like it. I'm not sure I'd call it the worst book I've ever read, but it's up there (or, down there, depending on your choice of coordinate system).

The actual writing was possibly the worst I've ever read for a published book, contending for that title with Dan Brown. Like his, it read quite fast, because it was so contentless. I almost enjoyed it, as there was some degree of suspense, but it was not engaging. And it didn't require any thought whatsoever. Also, Bella and Edward are at best simplistic, and are painted in broad strokes of sparkling, stereotypical paint; the supporting characters are cardboard cutouts. The only character I liked at all was Jacob.

Overall, reading it was like eating cheez-wiz. It's not filling, and I suppose some people like the taste, which could be described as pleasant, in a sense -- but it's strictly not to be confused with real food. And I'm vegan. So, there.

Those books really aren't made for me, but, owing to their massive popularity, they're difficult to ignore. I'm definitely more annoyed more by the fanbase than by what I actually read -- still, I prefer making fun of the franchise to raging every time I hear about them.

^ You're pretty much on the mark, there; lack of significant content, due to the fact it's a first-person telling of a generally unremarkable story about people in highschool. What can you get out of that scenario? Not a lot unless you really contrive the plot elements. Unfortunately, for all that there are exceptions to the rule, teenagers don't have anything close to life experience and telling it from inside some girl's head is a yawn-fest straight up.

If Meyer had told the story from Edward's perspective first, I can guarantee it would have been a more interesting book. He has actual conflict to deal with. Meanwhile, Bella has to contend with, "What shall I awkwardly say to my father over the dinner I have cooked him tonight while remaining concerned over my homework assignment?" I'd much rather hear the inner workings of a vampire driven near-insane by the need to eat someone when he's tried so hard to quit eating people. This is proven if you read the released beginning of Midnight Sun (Meyer's unedited work is a bit to get around, but the story is definitely improved).

There's a graphic novel of Twilight; the artist did a pretty top-notch job of recreating the characters how I imagined them to look. It's much less jarring than everyone cast in the movies.

Absolutely. The whole fiasco was ridiculous and her behaviour in response is shameful at best. Grow some balls, woman, and do your goddamn job. You already have the WHOLE PLOT FIGURED OUT. Re-writing it doesn't come with "maybe if I just change this" clauses; you re-write it from another person's perspective, act-for-act. No excuses.
