I understand why those exist. Like, you don't want some jerk sleeping across a whole bench. But, really, you might as well just put out folding chairs at that point.

Plus, then people can use the steel chairs to beat the sh*t out of each other at the gate before their flight---help relieve some of the stress of commercial air travel. Maybe even let people fight to the death for any unfilled first class seats. Film it all and sell the rights as fodder for a new reality show (you know those sleazebags at FOX would snap it up in a heartbeat). Funnel some badly needed currency back into the aviation industry. Man, this idea sounds better and better with each passing moment.

We have airport benches in the commons of our school. They're actually quite nice.

I saw The Terminal for the first time last week. Great deconstruction (literally & figuratively) of the problems those benches cause.

 We need more of this in our airport terminals.

I have waay too much personal experience with airports, and I can vouch for the utter suckiness of the benches therein.

At least it's not as bad as in the airplane, where you have ehh seats and absolutely no leg room.

^ I'll actually take the plane seats over most of the airport benches any day. At least on the plane they're padded and can tilt backward. Also, I'm not afraid of missing my flight by falling asleep on the plane. And someone comes by to wake me with food. That's pretty much my ideal scenario. "Excuse me, ma'am, sorry to wake you, but it's time for your next meal". YES PLEASE.

^ My main problems are the lack of leg room, the fact that SOMEHOW there is always a kicking child behind me who enjoys jabbing my back with his feet, and the "food" they serve there.

At least at the airports they have restaurant-type places that serve edible food. Nom. :{D

And you can sleep on planes?? Can I steal that ability from you for later this month pleaseeeee x{D

Qantas food is actually pretty good.
Why is it drug addicts and computer afficionados are both called users?

I had to sleep on airport seats once. It was at YVR returning from PAX 2009. They didn't have the armrests on them, so we were able to stretch out on a row. It was really cold, though; my friend put on all of the swag t-shirts that we got at PAX and still wasn't warm enough. Woke up feeling like I was run over by an ice cream truck.

That's because you were a freshman and no one would let you sleep on the ever-so-comfortable row of 3 where the Seniors always sit.

I haven't had terrible airplane food for years and years. It's all either decent, or super awesome. You're totally flying the wrong airlines, Lady.

And yes, I can sleep pretty much anywhere at mostly any time. As a small child, I would just climb under the table and go to sleep when my family was out late (or fall asleep on the lounge I was on, or in the car, whatever). Noise doesn't bother me either. Fireworks? On Hogmanay/New Years? Right across the street because we're holidaying on the Isle of Skye and our hotel is in walking distance from their big bridge that all the fireworks are on? HAH. I'M SLEEPING, MOFO. CAN'T WAKE ME.

Don't worry, it's a talent most people envy. ;)

Screw benches.

Moving sidewalks are where it's at.
