Um... I like my Gamestop and they might hire me and it has sweet perks. They don't work on commission in most cases. Plus don't all service jobs make you offer stuff. Cause I work at an Ice Cream shop and I offer things. Alot of things. Most of it stupid but it customers actually respond to it. Our company has a statistic that 55% of customers actually respond when offered things.

I know i'm just fanning the flames but I figured others opinions were valid when stating one's own so here is mine.

Also, it's not even the slang that will get you; it's the mumbled, semi-slurred speech from the guys. Also, trying to shorten most words, for the sake of shortening them.

I've never actually heard about that mumbled and semi-slurred speech from any Australians out at CSU. (Granted, we don't have like, a bunch, but we definitely got a few) Unless that is, they drank too much Fosters or it's an 8 AM class but even the bland western-US accents sound like that. :P

I work in a pizza place, when answering the phone I'm usually supposed ot ask them if they want bread sticks, cinnamon wheels or cookie dough, I usually don't, but when I do, oh do they think about it.

You're not fanning anything, man. ;) You're completely valid. Almost every service position is required (to keep the job) to offer additional goods (with no commission earned). After all: "Would you like fries with that?". Suggestive selling works and it's something you're trained to do as part of the job.

Well, I actually saw a sign for it in the background in the pub scene in Crocodile Dundee, so it's almost like it was actually advertised in Australia at some point.

No seriously. Free market. Gamestop is an awful store that acts as a pawnshop without the good deals.

There are so many alternatives that you really have no excuse anymore. Every Best Buy in the US has a giant video game section. If you're going for a new release, you can either go to Gamestop where they'll have no copies except for preorders, or go across the street to Best Buy where they have a crate in the middle of the floor.

The used game buyback is a total scam, unless you enjoy getting pennies on the dollar. Between Craigslist, Ebay, Amazon's reselling service, and a halfdozen other used marketplaces, you can get more money for your games.

You'd think a specialty store would be able to carry "niche" games, or have better prices, or better sales, or better promotions, but they don't. They routinely get stomped across the board by their brick-and-mortar competition. If you go online to Amazon, they're further murdered by promotions like "preorder this game and get $10 off the price PLUS an Amazon gift cert when the game ships.

But they at least have used games! Priced $5 less than a brand new game regardless of the age or quality. Go on ebay and you can get the same game for the actual market price.

If you shop at Gamestop, you are a complete idiot.

There is absolutely no place in the country that makes Gamestop your only choice. If not Best Buy, regional electronic box chains, Target, Kmart, Toys R Us, etc, there's still Walmart.

Plus that whole Interweb thing.

^The nearest Best Buy is an hour away, and none of those places have Gamecube/GBA games.

And I have no way of buying games from the internet.

That isn't a typical problem. At some point (usually after about 10 games) you run out of Gamecube titles worth a damn to buy.

Also, try living in the present.

You are right though, for the most part, older games are usually sold for just 80 cents or something.

If I need an old game, I'll just use EBay and take my chances.

I haven't looked for game stores in my area other than Wal-Mart and Gamestop. It's the same price either way, really.

Lurch, we have minors on the site who literally cannot shop online without some kind of means from their parents. I was never allowed to shop online until I was 18 & had my own credit card.
