Trust me, nobody wants to have bad forced characters in their media, but the article isn't about the quality of script, it is about trends in increased representation. Casting is a completely different field from writing and from acting, if you don't care about casting then why even post in the thread? There's nobody literally abolishing heterosexual male/female binary roles, so let's skip the lame discussions about it spreading like some kind of plague. Prior to current trends, there was little or no representation outside of drag parody where trans people are just an unfunny recurring joke at which some has-been like Mike Meyers would be made to gawp. You don't like sausage, we get it, there's nothing proud about that and it's not everyone's life.

As fair warning and a statement of intent, so we all know where we're at, I'm going to have to stop here and say that it is fine to discuss something like the psychology of being trans, but if someone wants to voice dislike or distaste for trans people as seems to be a familiar message, they're going to have to take it somewhere else because I will moderate their posts the same as I would anyone who wants to express dislike of other races. I'm empathetic if this makes anyone unhappy, but I do not have the ability to please all parties. If you feel excluded because it's your preference to exclude, well I guess then it's most appropriate you're the one I'm excluding.

And for the unspoken question of who this affects, at least 10 of my friends and acquaintances have come out as trans-gendered over the years. It's actually very strange to me not to see this addressed seriously in media.

Shutting down conversation immediately and making assumptions? I love assumptions, too, I make them constantly. You're blowing a question out of proportion, though. You did sort of answer it but it would have sufficed there. I'd respond to it but you're grumpy today, probably a side effect of the Muslim topic (ah, there's my assumptions again).

I didn't intend to make any assumptions as I'm pretty clear where you stand on personal liberties, but I just don't want to clean up after the fact if anyone wants to take it in a direction that's not accepted on the board.

I'm not sure which thread you mean by 'the Muslim thread' in particular as Islam has come up repeatedly, but I don't think there's anything I would feel bad about that I've seen on the boards. I'm definitely out of patience for the 'but I don't care about x' thing that seems to come up whenever people discuss representation and how it affects the perceptions of others.

I understand, there was a chance of the topic derailing and getting messy, so your position makes sense. The matter of representation, though, is one not everyone will agree on. Nobody benefits from an echo chamber.
