REPOST: Why I was up past 5am

[The original version of this thread was only up for about an hour when Shane had to do another reset this morning, so I doubt I missed many replies.]

At about a quarter past 2am, when I was getting ready to head up to bed, the phone started ringing. It was my cousin who lives with our Grandma calling to tell us that he had an ambulance on the way because she was having trouble breathing.
My parents & I rushed over & got there in time to help convince her to let the medics take her to the hospital & sort out her information for them. It also turned out she'd been vomiting (despite what should've been an empty stomach by that time of night) & that her heart rate was out of control.

Mom rode in the ambulance; Dad & I followed my uncle behind it. My mom & uncle went into the ER with Grandma while Dad & I waited in the lobby. After a while, Mom came out & told us Grandma was finally stabilized with an IV & her pulse back to normal, & that she'd be staying the night. She also told us that this had been brought on because Grandma hadn't taken her heart medication...because she hadn't ordered her refill...because she's an old, stubborn, Sicilian woman who mistakenly thinks driving a couple miles to pick up her order is an inconvenience for us...& because my uncle, who was supposed to check up on her yesterday to make sure she placed the order, got busy at work & didn't tell anybody that he couldn't do it. :smashhead:

It was nearly 5. Dad & I came home. I slept past noon today for the first time in ages.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Grandma came home today. :) They put her on a stricter prescription regimen now, so my parents & uncle & cousin all worked out a schedule to make sure she doesn't skip again. She'll also have a nurse visiting daily for the next couple weeks to help her get used to it.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Hate that feeling. Last time I was up all night for someone in the hospital, it ended in the worst way. I know you're a busy guy, but it pays to take matters into your own hands.

Happy to hear she's been released, btw. Good feelings in general in your direction, Cap, you're a good guy. Maybe that's a disconnected thought, but I haven't slept in like a day and a half myself, and it tears me up to see my friends struggling.
I muttered 'light as a board, stiff as a feather' for 2 days straight and now I've ascended, ;aughing at olympus and zeus is crying

Real glad that your grandmother's doing better, Capt. Hospitals aren't fun for anyone, and I hope things stay all right with her.

Looking after elderly family is tough all over. Their stubbornness coupled with how flippant they tend to be about their own medical requirements can take some juggling, that's for sure. Glad things worked out okay considering the potential severity of the event! I'm certain your Grandmother is glad to be back home again.
Nonsense, I have not yet begun to defile myself.

Yeah, she's a light picky eater, so the hospital's version of healthy-portions of a diabetic-diet was pretty frustrating for her. She loves the rubber-grip socks they gave her, though!

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"
