My Mother
So for years now I have held nothing but distaste at my mother's immaturity and stupidity. Finally, now that I am 18, I got to move out. To my dad's, since none of my friends wanted to have me as a roommate it seems, but hey, it's an improvement. So I come home to grab all my games and other such possessions only to find my mother had sold off my 360 and Wii, along with all games I had for both. Games that I paid for. I wouldn't have minded the consoles, but I lost at least half of my collection of 90 or so games without so much as a single penny paid to me in return. On top of that, she thieved money I was gifted for my graduation. Why does she need this money? Because she throws all of hers out the window buying stupid things like a new tattoo or a damned pop corn machine.
Actually, on top of the popcorn machine, she blows tons of money on sports accessories and fan stuff, jewelry, a couple new laptops for herself, a snow cone maker, deep-fryer, and god knows what else. She could barely pay her cable bill (again), hence why all my games are gone now.
Oh yes, but how dare I get mad that a good portion of my worldly possessions are gone. Since I had celebrated my best friend's birthday yesterday instead of signing my service card, I'm apparently "wasting all of my time doing nothing." In fact, my mom always believes that if you have any sort of free time, you are not trying hard enough to succeed in life. Yet whenever she got home while I still lived here, who watched over the little girls while she sat on her ass to watch reality TV? I did. And I never even asked for anything in return. But no, I was always and forever lazy. I'm just as bad as my father, apparently, whom she constantly blackmails with the threat of forcing him to pay child support despite how well he treats the girls and me whenever we're over at his house; him usually watching us so my mom can go and do something else that costs loads of money.
After I get a check for all the money she owes me, I never want to see her damned face again. I hope she rots and festers in the personal Hell she continuously puts herself in.

Ouch...your mom is the opposite of my mom, whose cheapness has played a critical role in shaping my identity (she never paid full price for anything except marriage and childbirth, so I'm told).
Anyway, from what I've learned with my mom, you could say that moms always expect the best out of their children, which is likely why she's insisting that you do more "productive" stuff than whatever it is you're doing (which I know nothing about) in your free time. But since you've paid for your own games with your own money, that really shows you've got a good work ethic and a great sense of reward. Success in life should be no challenge for you, dude. :)
Bottom line: my advice would be to stand by your ethics, and if your mom is screwing with your money or your possessions, don't be afraid to speak out. You're an adult. You can make your own decisions. You have way more of a voice than you did when you were a kid. Mom is nothing to be scared of. Unless the mom in question is Mama June from Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.
I hope you'll be able to rebuild your game empire.

Be more productive, you can enjoy your riches on your death bed. You can even have a more comfortable bed to die in.
This type of hypocrisy is common in adults, I have seen it before as well. What's yours is theirs and what's theirs is theirs, whether you bought it or not. Everything you do is worthless, everything they do is just great.

Thanks for all this, guys. Reading all this has cheered me up quite a bit.
I used to have an SNES as well, but she sold that a year or so ago. I was okay with it then since she had bought it for me (albeit for my birthday but y'know).
She did the same thing to all my dad's consoles while they were married, so I guess it shouldn't have surprised me so much.
Most notably Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Brawl, Melee, Paper Mario, PM: TTYD, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Fallout 3 and New Vegas, Skyrim, and Super Mario RPG.Tunnel Snakes RULE! wrote:That's horrible, man, my commiserations. What games are you missing, mate?

That really sucks, and it's really a lame thing for your mother to have done. It's very harsh to have people who are close to you completely do dickish things to you and then try to justify that as trying to make you a better person. Because they're not being good people when you do that.
Glad you're away from her now though; at least that'll hopefully be the turn of the tide.

I learnt today she's 700 dollars in debt. She also makes twice as much as my dad (whom manages to have groceries and all bills paid with a bit extra to spend).
What the hell.
In any case, if she didn't have to depend on my father for groceries, I might've been kicked out of his house today with her blackmailing my dad with child support again.

Though it's doubtful I'll get the money for any of the games from her, I kinda wanted to post here a thank you for all of you guys. Not only did you offer a place to vent with condolences, but a few of you guys even went further and decided to send me some games and even new consoles. I dunno if I'm making a big deal out of this or whatever, but I'm extremely grateful to all of you for this. You're all some of the best friends I've ever had.
I owe ya one, VGF.
