Apart from the fascinating and informative allcaps images about whether or not a US president is in fact a nigerian prince with monay 4 u, how guns help keep your teeth clean (OBAMANAUTS), how that one guy in sports did A Thing That We Do Not Like®, etc, well...
...I keep seeing these things about how parents like to be a nightmare for their offspring, because it's their 'job' which always tend to come off to me as "I'm going to treat you like **** because I love you and that's how love works."
Except that's not really how love works. It's always sounded selfish. While I realize that children probably need to learn about selfishness from their parents, why do you suppose people feel so entitled to ownership over another? The only qualifying factor to having children is to have functioning genitals.

Yeah, naturally kids are going to piss someone off and bear the brunt of repercussion for that. Many parents seem to have no understanding of a functional relationship, however. Their ideas are never called into question, they simply act out wildly.
Parents are role models. Flipping out and yelling and stalking are all learnable behaviors, don't you agree? I find it very difficult to accept a large piece of human behavior and the people who have no idea how toxic they are to their own life experience.

If you don't control your kids, they grow up to be vicious. No one wants that, but some people go too far. I think it is important to remember that people that are not 20 or above are humans and that they act like typical humans. A lot of adults seem to forget this. I may even be forgetting it.
If you are willing to endure being hated and do the right thing, that is not necessarily selfish. It may seem cruel to the teenager at the time, but if it kept them from ending up a strung out addict, kept them alive, and kept them from having 3 kids by age 18, I think they will not regret it later. It is not like that is a matter of control though, setting a good example and getting willing obedience is better. Elders should not always be blindly listened to either, but listening to stories about their mistakes and not repeating them sure helps.
