...Was arrested for arson. Supposedly, he set a Walmart on fire. ZG, you should know where, it's localish to you. I'm kind of proud of him.

If I were to go to jail for any one crime, I think I would have it be "setting a Wal-mart on fire."

Those that know history would know if we're doomed to repeat it. I think we should take this as a sign that something terrible is happening. This is just like that time dolphins took their revenge on us, and just before that marine biologists committed suicide in droves.

Proud of burning a Walmart, AI? What if someone was hurt?

If they were in Walmart, let god sort 'em out.
My real answer is, I would prefer nobody were injured (they weren't, afaik), and I reserve the right to be smug over the destruction of a mega corporation's property. That beside, you've probably driven a car in your life for some petty reason, maybe to get a pack of gum or a magazine. People can get hurt doing all sorts of things. I've had tons of friends and relatives die, and none of them were in a burning Walmart. My nonchalance to **** happening is perhaps at an all-time high. I may not have the crazy, and I do not set Walmarts on fire, but if a crazy bastard set it on fire I am not at all interested in putting the fire out, because I do not consider mega chains a legitimate method of business.

What is legitimate business AI?

I don't especially have anything against chain business, besides the irritating inability to get away from the same corporate signs and slogans in the US, but I do not especially consider a humongous company that operates to the detriment of the needy (such as Walmart) to be a responsible hierarchy. Walmart is an aggregate of funds, it's a hoarding mechanism for the top tier. Even if it's not the cause of the problem, it's a mechanism sustaining poverty.
I'm not saying I have concise solutions for the things I take exception to, and these sorts of things are never something that can be summarized in a single statement. Any comment I make is likely to be a small fragment of my perception, and I'm not interested in fixing problems. People throw concepts of "right" at me all of the time, yet they are always exemplary of collectivism; desperately-singular persons would like to imagine that "we" as a group are progressing to some collective, important point. That is incorrect, because I will die. That is incorrect, because I do not peripherally benefit from what befits the vaguness of humankind.

I'll look back at my European History notes and see if he was trying to leave us a message.

^^^ I understand what you mean, though it gives people jobs. By the way, I've seen you in debates on here, so I'm just letting you know that I'm not meaning any disrespect by trying to discuss stuff before it turns into an argument.

Okay hold up, I just read this. Are you really saying that you're part of the problem of the world today and one of those "let my children deal with it" people?

I'm not sure why you would think I want children, or perceive whether or not creating luxuries for hypothetical children will do anything for them besides give them a lower tolerance for pain. Besidewhich, your children die no matter what. If you want to feel bad about yourself enough to do something for hypothetical people in the future so you can feel good about yourself, go ahead. Sounds an awful lot like a guilt complex to me, though. I didn't get the ball rolling on the monstrosity known as civilization, and I don't really see why it should keep rolling. What's your goal, **** this planet and its resources enough that you can move on to other planets? Sounds a bit psychotic and utterly selfish.

You do realize you're talking about a system in which you exchange a mostly worthless material for objects of worth. It's a fascinating fantasy.
Walmart jobs should not even exist. Walmart is a hoarding system. Just because there are hoarding mechanisms competing with one another does not mean it is intrinsically valid.
Outside of any silly arguments over the validity of such a system, it has fringe profit enough that paying the employees out of a job from a burnt down store would make no difference.

When you drive a car, do you think "I'm going to make sure that I drive as fast as I can to rebel against the speed limit and I don't care if I accidentally hit someone?" Not likely. The more-probable answer to that is, "No, I drive to obtain [insert crap here] or to get to [insert location here.]" It's a means of transportation. You don't drive your car as a means of getting your point across. Few drive their car to do something like that, the car is usually for uses other than destroying things.
When you set fire to a building, especially with the knowledge that the place is usually open very late, meaning that there would be people in there, you're putting aside the consequences of stolen life to get your point across. It's pathetic that someone could be driven to such an extreme to get their point across- it sounds like this guy might have had other things going on upstairs, though, so I can't get too much into that.
There's a difference between dying by some sort of an accident and dying because some lunatic set fire to a building because he had some problem going on in his life or he wanted to say something. Words weren't enough, apparently; they rarely are for most people, understandably.
That all being said, I understand that you're not at all saying that you're not wanting people inside a Walmart to die, you just want the place gone.

^ I'm not sure I follow you. Because you weren't trying to make a point of it and your act of driving a car is less meaningful, it is less of an issue that you are endangering the lives of others for the sake of easy access to your stick of gum?
