Mom gives me $6 to go get a newspaper. I buy a Soda as well, and this costs about $2.78. I should get $2.22 in change, since I gave the cashier a $5. But I only get $0.22 in change. I kindly point out she forgot to give me $2, and she says "No I didn't." I don't see any $2, I only have the extra $1.

then she summons the manager, who takes her side and says "She gave you change, you have a dollar right there". Even if that came with the receipts, I was still short a dollar. She says she gave me two dollars, which she didn't. Do I see $2 here? No, I don't. She only gave me receipts that actually say I should have been given $2.22...but I only had $0.22. (btw the $0.22 came from a change machine - a lot of stores have them nowadays to get people out of the line faster.)

Finally the manager just says "Just get out, she gave you change, you're not getting extra money".

Okay, what the ****, manager? I'm not trying to scam you out of a whopping $2, but accusing me of trying to scam you? That's why I'm ranting. If I just got short-changed $2 and didn't realize it until I got home then I wouldn't be complaining because it's only $2, but being accused of trying to scam you is just unacceptable.

I'm sorry Safeway, but I will not be returning anytime soon. I know you hate having to work on Thanksgiving, but that does not give you the right to accuse me of trying to scam you. Good way to treat your customers.

They'll realize it when her drawer counts out wrong later. If Safeway is anything like Kmart, cashiers can get just as yelled-at for having too much money as they can for having too little money.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

And to speed up the line. Fast food restaurants always put that stuff in just so they can get people out faster.

I'd say I'm happy to live in Australia, on that note, but here they have bag-checkers at every store. So instead they insinuate everyone is a possible criminal. I mean, they are from the store's perspective, but maybe I'm just not used to it in the sense that I still take insult from it. Seems like they always find a way to imply that I'm incompetent no matter where I am.

Like, oh - no problem, you're not directly calling me a thief. Just incidentally.

In other news, "speeding up checkout" is a nice way of saying "having less employees at registers" but as consumers you should definitely do your part in these tough economic times to support your local grocer. Right.

^ That tends to be a lot of businesses out here, too. One of the reasons my dad refuses to shop at Sams is because he feels they don't trust people.

Just about every business has some form of skeleton in their closet. Do enough digging, you'll find scary political beliefs held by higher-ups as well as lobbying/donations made to questionable firms, lawsuits made against them, a customer who was screwed by their policies, customers who were insulted by employees, employees fired for unjust reasons, legal loopholes being exploited to swindle employees, employees who were scapegoated for something a higher-up did, "stalking" on social networking sites, unfortunate implications held in hiring policies....

Well, if I made decisions about where to shop based on the owner's political beliefs, I would only be able to patronize businesses I owned.

If the owner is lobbying towards politics like anti Gay rights, then I certainly wouldn't be patronizing them, since I dont' want my money flowing to that.
