Whatever happened to, "Never speak ill of the Dead"?

Okay so as you know, Steve Jobs died yesterday of Pancreatic Cancer. On boards everywhere and Twitter I saw all sorts of ****ty comments and other such bad stuff. Among these comments I saw were stuff like "Ding dong the witch is dead", making hate sites celebrating his death, etc. I even saw idiotic tweets saying "The world is a better place now. It would have been if he never existed" (Apparently they don't like pixar) or "lol Apple doesn't have virus protection."
For the record, I was just as disgusted that people were saying this about Michael Jackson awhile ago, or seeing people saying "Ding Dong the witch is dead" about Jade Goody in the UK.

Yeah, people on the internet are jerks. They're tribal and they're quick to create symbols revolving around charismatic characters. They rejoice then their symbols win and when other's symbols lose.

I think it's okay to speak ill of the dead in certain instances. Like, if the dead in question was an irredeemable dirty bastard---sometimes there's an awful fuzzy line between 'speaking ill' and 'speaking honestly'.
Granted, that isn't usually the case, and it isn't the case in this instance.

Just for the record, these kinds of people have been around since the beginning of time. It's just that now the internet makes them easier to find.

This is why I don't have a Facebook, Myspace, or Twitter.

Exactly. Don't ever tell me to respect Hitler. :)

I wasn't going to before, but now I kind of want to do exactly that.
Hitler---a bad man, but a snappy dresser. Probably had an okay singing voice, too (not that you'd know it, unless you caught him at Beer Hall Putsch/Karaoke Night).

Hitler wasn't that bad. He killed Hitler.

Well, not that I like or condone any of what Hitler did - he was horrible. But I respect how he was able to rise to power and turn one of the poorest countries into an empire.

I respect how he was able to forever ruin the toothbrush mustache style.

I need to have this quote framed somehow.
