Cars

Recently got the car "fixed" which means it's not trying to kill me any more.

There's a crapload of stuff that still needs dealing with, though.

Air Conditioning: Not so important when I lived around Cleveland. Much more important when you live in a city which tops out around 110° F.

Speedometer: Thing's unreliable past 60K per hour. It's a common occurrence that I end up smacking the dashboard when it sticks at 80.

Paint: Damn car's gonna rust up unless I get that crappy patch worked over.

CD player: Maybe I'm the only man on earth who still uses them, but I need my CD's man. Damn thing has started refusing to eject discs.

Auto lock: The car locks the doors if you shut them too hard. Sometimes it locks them immediately after you turn the key, as well.

I don't have a car, and I understand that they suck away money in so many ways. It's your second-most expensive purchase, and it can be totalled by some guy in the parking lot with a bee on his dashboard.

I just had some scheduled maintenance on mine, & now the car feels like it's struggling more to accelerate, even though the whole engine just got cleaned & re-fluided.

I still use CDs, too. My dad pointed out that a small needle-nose pliers can usually fit enough into the slot to reach the disc if it gets stuck.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Thanks for the tip. It's not been totally uncooperative. It's more like a sullen teenager than any other device I've owned.

My car is a 1999 model, so it still has a CD player. Except I'm groovy enough to have a five CD system*

*CDs are put in the case in the freaking trunk, what is up with that.

My car also has some strange problem with the door signal. If there's too much of a temperature increase, it thinks the door is still open even when I'm half an hour into a trip.

The wire is expanding and warping due to the heat, and thus not making the circuit and allowing detection of the door being closed.

my present car is stable, if you don't count that the suposeldy sturdy underside of the car went to pieces (turns out the imprezas don't have aluminum plates that protect the undercarige of the car plastic crap) after i hit some nasty ice blocks on the road.

My last car on the other hand:

A Mercedes 220 Elegance from 1994 in my care it mostly ran on 3 of it's 4 cylinders therefore it was slow as a glazier but comfortable like nothing ellse (lucky that casue you spent time in it)...

The speedometer got stuk sometimes and the only thing it could play was 8-tracks before i changed to a CD player.

It leaked water like nothing ellse so i always had a big bottle just in case it would start to protest, later I threw in some cinnamon powder and it worked wonders (smelled good too)

One time i missed a crossroad and sent the car down in the ditch but managed to get it up from there on two wheels and land it safe, just had to press the front bumper and get some soil from the right front wheel (allso a change of underwear).

The Ac worked great and the humidity control was awesome (sometimes when you pressed it you heard a big splash and suddenly you had a water trail after the car great for shaking of cars giving chase).

Last time i drove it i i was driving my brother to the bus, we soon realised that something was wrong as it wouldn't go faster than 50 Km/h and it was protesting (turns out that it only ran on 2 cylinders at the time).

And the last mile it kind of coughed and spat out what i think was the insides Catalytic converter alternate the muffler.

the day after I went to the repair shop said do what you can and left it there, there i heard that there where engine oil in the water (damn that cars water cosumption) probably form the enginge overheating sometime and that it would cost to fix it.

5 days later it was sold to a poor guy that said he could fix it, a few months after that I visited the repair shop again (picking up some stuff for my sisters boyfriend) and heard that he had managed to set the wrong cable to each spark plug so the engine was pretty much toast(don't ask me how).

So now it probably stands in a barn somewhere between Hoting and Östersund and is just waiting for a new engine that probably never will be fixed.

My car seems to be working fine, but that's probably mostly because I sparingly use it. Even though when we got it, the "lock" wouldn't work on the doors and I had to use my Keyfob to lock the door.

That, and it's a Sedan. And I'm a good six feet tall...and Sedans are most designed for urbanites who're five feet tall so yes, it's like a sardine can in there. It could be worse, like a P.T. Cooper or a Smart Car, but when you're too cheap to get a gas guzzling big car and too timid to drive a truck, (Tehy're not as safe.) lesser evil and that's it.

Speaking of cars...just got in an accident today. The repairs will be great. :(

Well, I guess now I can get that tune-up and oil change I've been meaning to get. Le sigh.

Legroom isn't the only issue here.

Plus we probably would have gotten a volvo because those things have the reputation for being "indestructible". Which is good - because rule #1 of driving is don't trust your fellow dirvers to not do something incredibly stupid.

Blarg. I dislike cars.

They're like cramped steel boxes with wheels.

When I grow up, I will travel everywhere on a tamed kangaroo.

No one was hurt. In Michigan we have no fault insurance which means that no matter what happened, it's no one's fault. I left the crash site after exchanging insurance information telling her I'm sorry and that she should call a tow truck because something was leaking. Totally knowing I wouldn't have to pay for her damages and thinking she knew the same....

I got a text this morning telling me how much it was to fix her car ($1100 because the brake line got ruptured). I was like, "Oh man, that really sucks, I'm so sorry. However, you do know we're responsible for our damages, right?" That's when it got crazy. She started threatening me saying she was going to call the police (it was private property, just a parking lot accident, so they can't do anything). Then she said she was going to "sue my ass" because it was my fault. Then she goes, "Or I can just call your insurance company," like it's a big threat. We called them after her and they told us what we knew. No fault, so she can't sue me for anything. She doesn't have collision insurance (oops) so my insurance can give her $500 but she has to cover the rest. She then tells me that she called OfficeMax and they have the video of me hitting her car. Yeah, except NO FAULT insurance. Good job.

Then she starts saying she has whiplash and back pains so she's going to sue me for that. Well, that's covered in our policy so, again, my insurance would cover any of her medical costs (if they existed) plus it sounds like she couldn't afford to go to the doctor to get the notes anyway if she can't even pay $600.

Then I got another text from her saying that I have to meet her at the police station or else she'll see me in court. Well, that isn't possible. Ugh. I just don't understand her ignorance. It was an accident. My part is covered because I pay insurance. It's her own gamble for not being covered. It's just starting to piss me off. :( I just wish it never happened.
