My pair of earbuds broke yesterday. After about 3-4 months of use, they lost sound in the right ear.

That's not uncommon. Every pair of headphones and earbuds I've owned since I was 8 broke this way (except one pair, which lost sound in the left ear).

I do use them rather frequently, usually 4-6 hours a day. But I don't think that would make them as likely to damage as they are. Especially not in the same way every time.

Does this happen to other people?

It's bad soldering, or just wire that's broken internally because it's too thin, from bending. Likely to happen in cheap headphones, like earbuds. You could fix them, but it's not worth the effort. I use headphones with a 1/4th inch jack to avoid that problem in my headphones, but they're professional monitors. Earbuds have horrible sound, anyway.

Your face has terrible sound.

Except for one pair I had that just lost sound in one ear, my headphones have all been more likely to have the adjustable parts break than anything else.
My current pair is doing great, though.

I consistently had this problem about two years back. It was just because I had cheap headphones.

Once I got a pair of $10-$20 headphones, they lasted me months.

You don't need to pay $200 for Beats by Dre for some nice, sturdy headphones with good sound.

Happens to me too. There's some wire near the jack which gets broken, and I can usually jiggle the wires to get sound back. Eventually, though, it's so thoroughly broken, I just get a new pair.

I've gone through about six pairs of earphones in the past 2 years.

Each has lasted about four months.

Every time, the left earphone loses sound somehow.

I even do that cool "jiggle" trick Ace was talking about to get sound back for like a week before I trash 'em.

The earbuds that came with my Zune lasted for about a year. I've had other earbuds not work out of the package or break after a few months.
