^ Some guy on my Facebook was recently so upset about someone else not wearing shoes that he reported it to his school administration, because of "sanitation/health" reasons. WTF.

But heterosexuals don't announce theirs as often. Also, IIRC, she said she was in a relatively accepting environment where nobody really cared much.I am nobody wrote:Why do others happily announce their religion, career, hobbies, etc? That's what people do when something is a significant part of their identity, especially if they've been forced to repress it in the past.

How do you even do this in a comparable manner?Pie-Tart Cat wrote:I want to add that I do that as a heterosexual individual, so.

@ Loot: I suppose your first answer makes sense but the second is ironically the same type of opression.

Pretty sure you know what I mean.Saria Dragon of the Rain Wilds wrote:I know for absolute fact that I have seen you say, on more than one occasion, something which makes your heterosexuality abundantly clear. Even comments about how you find a particular woman attractive is announcing your preference to the world. You might not state, "I'm straight," (though in relevant conversations around VGF, you totally have), but you are no less declaring your identity than anyone from the LGBTQ spectrum with your words and actions.

No, really, you're just thinking of it weirdly. To you, it is so absolutely natural and normal to make remarks about your sexuality in contexts such as the examples I gave that you don't even realise that it's the same as non-hetero-normatives making their sexuality obvious too. Same thing. You just don't notice.
Nonsense, I have not yet begun to defile myself.

Let's use an example, shall we:
Someone Else: "Well, I hope that scar on your face heals quickly."
Me: "Well, even if it doesn't, many people have told me chicks dig scars. So either way, win-win."
I said this practically word for word yesterday. There you go. You're welcome.

I had no idea that Cuccolady was a homosexual. Did you announce this before or something? Has it always been known? I did not see any clues. IT is not a fair mystery game if no clues are available.
For that matter, how did you figure it out? How could you not have known a long time ago? It should have always been obvious to you. I just do not see how people suddenly figure these things out.

CL has been fairly open about it, at least as it appears to me.
Let's avoid judgments, though. With society saying that all people should be like 'x' it is completely natural that someone would feel confused about their feelings, taking time to really figure out how to identify. It should have always been obvious to you. I just do not see how people suddenly figure these things out.

I don't think she's homosexual. Her original post seemed to take great lengths to state that she is not monosexually gay. And in the sexual orientation thread, she identified as other, so there's that. Of course, I'm not CL, so I can't say for sure what she considers herself, but only that I believe she's hinting that she's not full-on lesbian.

There's not really a line you cross where you are just exclusively gay or not gay at all. People have degrees of bisexuality, you know? A girl who is sexually attracted to other girls may also be mentally attracted to the men she knows more than the women she knows. This complicates an already complicated matter, because as we're all aware mainstream culture is constantly bombarding children with gender-norm reinforcements. I have a friend who for years was consistently more attracted to men than women, but he could not find a guy who was both gay and not annoying as hell, because any of those he found were through gay culture. He ended up marrying a bi woman I also know, I'm the reason they were introduced in the first place.Kil'jaeden wrote:For that matter, how did you figure it out? I once was (semi but not really) involved very briefly with a guy who had thought he was exclusively attracted to men. After getting to know each other, he became unsure of that. Eventually, he did come to the conclusion that he was, in fact, exclusively attracted to men.
Basically, even if you think you've got it figured out, anyone could come into your life at any time and make you rethink. So you may not even always be on the same place on the spectrum your whole life.

i purposefully avoided giving myself any sort of label and just exclusively used 'q-word' or 'not straight' because my personal 'moment of self discovery' or w/e was just me realizing that i can dig chicks, but that i don't dig them exclusively, but that i do dig them preferentially, but the exact nature of my orientation was less important to me than finally coming to a sort of understanding of what it was. and again i go to hippie school that doesn't like labels.
[[but im ngl, i definitely also avoided stating anything explicitly to gauge how many people would assume 'not straight' meant 'gay'... im a horrible person, sorry. you were all test subjects]]

kil'jaeden, I actually believed for the longest time that everyone who was gay or q-word in any way knew their whole lives what they were, and that I obviously also knew exactly what I was and that answer just was either obviously straight or obviously lesbian [trust me depending on the month you asked me it would change]. It took a lot of time and a lot of crushes to figure everything out, and to accept that being not-straight actually *didn't* mean being a lesbian. I had a few phases where every time I would crush on a dude, no matter how many girl-crushes I'd had, it would convince me I was straight. And vice versa. high school was confusing
I believe in second chances, and that's why I believe in you.
