Rear ended someone's car today.
I heard something fall from my passenger side car and look at the floor for half a second when all of a sudden I hear a thud. I'm like "Oh ****" because I had just rear ended this girl. Her first reaction of course isn't to pull to the side of the road but immediately call her insurance company. I understand I am at fault for this because I rear ended her. I look at her bumper and I see a dent and some dark gray paint. I know that my car is dark gray so at first I believe that I caused that. I get out of the car after pulling to the side to check things out and I see no paint missing or dent at all on my bumper. She said she had just gotten her bumper fixed after this other kid rear ended her about a month or two ago. I didn't really think about it until now that this happened. I was panicking in the moment too and followed procedure after the cops arrived. I didn't get a ticket or anything but still have to wait til Monday to call my insurance. Now, looking back on it I probably should've taken pictures because how can she have extensive paint exchange if I have none of her paint on my front bumper or none of my paint missing at all? I'll admit I had an accident and bumped into her but the impact should've caused some of her paint to come off onto my car or at least some dent somewhere. Instead, my car is perfectly fine! Then I remember her saying she had gotten into an accident a few months back and had issues with this kid's insurance company. Is it possible that I am going to be tricked by this lady who is running a scam with this kind of fraud? Just curious as to what your thoughts may be on this. The cop who took a look didn't really look at the "damage" either and just assumed that I had dented her bumper with the paint exchange. But there is no damage to my front bumper or any paint missing or any of her paint on my car. Where the **** did the gray paint on her back bumper come from?! Why was she stopped in the middle of the road too. I'm seriously trying to make sense of it all. Again, I admit I screwed up but I don't really think the damage that is shown on her back bumper was caused by me.
I also think I dodged a bullet because I didn't get ticketed by the cop since the traffic was so slow moving. No points on my license for this guy!

I'd go ahead and take pictures of your front bumper. If this gets too out of hand, press the point that she had a prior accident. Even if the cops try and **** you over, your insurance will more than likely be kind to you. (which is how I had to deal with this one bitch sideswiping me I'm still mad about that dam)

I went ahead and looked up the cost for a replacement of a Toyota Yaris bumper (the one I hit) and it doesn't even cost that much for the part and maintenance but I will wait and see what happens. Hopefully my cautionary accident thresh hold won't go over. I still plan to talk to my insurance company on Monday. I'm gonna also stress the fact that she was in a previous accident too. Thanks NK. I hate driving as it is but getting into an accident like this makes me feel I got screwed over (even though I understand I shouldn't have looked down on my floorboard while driving). The speed I was going was less than 5 miles so I'm still mind****ed about this whole thing.

I've been rear ended three times. Two of those times I was sitting at a red light at a complete stop. In the most recent case, just the slightest tap of my bumper was enough to make it a borderline repair/replace (they chose to repair). Initially, I noticed no damage, but then the next day after I'd gone away I did see something. I happened to work with the person who hit me, which was a little awkward, but her insurance company really made the whole process simple. They didn't even come look at the car. Too bad the auto body shop sucked so bad and held my car for triple the amount of time necessary.
I'm not sure it will necessarily help you any regardless, but assuming there is sufficient proof of a prior accident, the insurance company should not cover anything from it. For that matter, they may not cover anything for her at all if there's no way to know which accident caused which damage or if they can verify the damage on the car is not recent.

Yeah...that's true. I'm sure Shane that since you live in Massachusetts that you know how bad New Englanders drive. More specificallly Rhode Island drivers. I can't pass three cars without seeing someone with a huge dent in them. It makes me miss my home town even more and all the more to get out of here once I finish school.

^Having dated a Bostonian once, been there done that! Drivers in my area suck too because they're all from the middle of nowhere; they're used to nobody being around and therefore being able to do stupid **** without it affecting others. Athenians in general, I find to be extremely inconsiderate.

Lets look at it this way NK. Providence is probably one of the smallest "major cities" in the USA. According to Allstate, 80.9 percent of the drivers there get in accidents. This puts Rhode Island rate number 3 on the worst driving states in the country. Meanwhile, in New York City, only about 40 percent of the drivers have gotten into accidents. NYC must trump Providence's population tenfold but yet NYC is a much safer place to live in if you drive there. Do they literally just hand licenses like candy or something?! And yes, in Athens Georgia there are a lot of douche-bags around. I used to live in Augusta when I was a little kid so I knew how bad Georgia was.

Wow. Those are some frightening statistics. When I visited my home state (Oregon), I was quite pleasantly surprised by how considerate everyone was...not even just the drivers, the pedestrians too! And my boyfriend always makes fun of me for not taking advantage of having the right of way at crosswalks...because you see, in Athens, people have no bloody idea what those little lines in the street mean and they will run you right over.
I have no idea how I'm going to last without looking super dumb up in Maryland. Lol.

I almost get into an accident every other day around here. Good thing I'm paying attention because these other people aren't, and while they're busy not paying attention, they are tailgating aggressively, passing on the right, switching lanes without using their turn signals, and driving diagonally through parking lots. To make matters worse, I work right next door to Gillette Stadium. I park in another lot that almost nobody uses and walk the extra two minutes that most people are too lazy to walk, but you can't do that on game/concert/marathon/American Idol audition/whatever other ridiculous nonsense they have going on there some days. They also plan on getting rid of that lot to make way for another hotel, CVS, and restaurant, as if there are not enough idiots in the area already. Then I'd have to park with the people who are there to shop and who simply don't care if they damage your car. They don't pay attention to crosswalks either, even at an outdoor mall with a glow in the dark sign right in the middle of the street, so I dare them to run me over.
