Nintendo has announced a special Nintendo Direct presentation focused on the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie from production company Illumination.

The presentation will take place on October 6th at 1:05pm PT / 09:05pm BST / October 7th 4:05am AWST and will introduce the world premiere trailer for the film. Nintendo also notes, of course, that no game information will be revealed... obviously.

It's important to note that the above tweet also contains our first official look at the movie itself via a pretty busy image of Mario himself standing in the midst of the Mushroom Kingdom, with Peach's Castle looming in the distance. It looks nice!

Here's a look at the image in full:

This is one of the few movies I'm really looking forward to, there's a few interesting ones this year I'll be checking out but Mario will probably end up as the best video game movie ever. I'm a little hesitant about the voices of iconic characters being changed, but it's looking fine so far.

It's too bad there won't be any games announced at the Nintendo Direct though, I expected an accompanying Mario game to tie in with the film. We're about due for one.

They already ruined it

Browser marches on a kingdom of ice people with his mobile fire cloud.................... does that make any sense at all? A fire-cloud on a ice-field.

Kamek does all the dirty work in one.

Bowser does not use his atomic fire breath.

He gloats over a super-star just like Sonic and his ring or even Robotnik a Sonic quill.

Oh look Captain Toad.

Oh look the Toad sounds weird.

Oh look cheap dialog.

They've always been inconsistent with Mario geography. Each game portrays the land and architecture differently. Some iterations are pretty close but never 1:1, so that issue about the castle isn't unique to the film.
