...I mean, this isn't a judgment on the film, but I've seen so many movies whose premises are almost exactly this.

It's an uphill battle to be better than 'Conan the Barbarian', and I'm delighted every time some movie tries to be the next 'Conan the Barbarian'. Because I want more movies like 'Conan the Barbarian'. Even if they never usurp the throne, the attempt is still admirable.

That trailer surprised me. It feels like a movie from another time, like an 80's movie but designed with the modern amenities of film technology.

I think it'll be great, I'll watch it.

^Yeah! It feels like a Conan or Beastmaster or Yor or something, just from the trailer!

Probably it won't be no good, but, you know, every so often a miracle occurs. You get a 'The Mummy' franchise, where the first two movies are within shouting distance of Indiana Jones, and then the silly spin-off Scorpion King movie is weirdly better than it has any right to be. (And then come the horribly disappointing five-years-past-relevance sequel and the garbagey reboot. But let them not tarnish fond memories of the first three flicks. Hollywood corrupts everything----------nothing gold can stay.)

I've only seen Conan out of the ones you listed, but I agree (I'll have to check the others out).

Yeah, the reality is most movies aren't good, and they don't make them like they used to anymore. You're right, it probably won't be good, but then again I thought that about Joker and it's actually better when you're surprised with a good movie.

The Mummy remains basically the sole franchise based on the classic movie monsters that I like. It's too bad we can't get a fun franchise like that again for others, like Invisible Man or Wolf Man. Maybe it was something about the Egyptian setting.

I think 'The Mummy' was more a lightning-in-a-bottle thing. Perfect cast, perfect scripts, perfect director, perfect vision---‐-‐--it all just worked. You can't make that happen (hence how pathetic the garbagey last sequel and ass reboot were, not to mention sad imitators like 'Van Helsing', 'League of Extraordinary Gentlemen' and (*sigh*) 'Kingdom of the Crystal Skull').

It's the reason why some things will always be great (I would watch 'Hudson Hawk' literally any time), and some things cannot possibly ever be (you can't make 'Total Recall' or 'Robocop' better than the original filmmakers did, no matter how much money you desperately fling about. Please stop it, Hollywood, you're embarrassing yourself.)
