Have you seen Rocky?
Who are your favourite characters?
What did you like/dislike about the film?
In 1975, the heavyweight boxing world champion, Apollo Creed, announces plans to hold a title bout in Philadelphia during the upcoming United States Bicentennial. However, he is informed five weeks from the fight date that his scheduled opponent Mac Lee Green is unable to compete due to an injured hand. With all other potential replacements booked up or otherwise unavailable, Creed decides to spice things up by giving a local contender a chance to challenge him.
Creed selects Rocky Balboa, an Italian journeyman southpaw boxer who fights primarily in small gyms and works as a collector for a loan shark. Rocky meets with promoter George Jergens assuming that Creed is seeking local sparring partners. Reluctant at first, Rocky eventually agrees to the fight which will pay him $150,000. Rocky undergoes several weeks of unorthodox training, such as using sides of beef as punching bags.

Fantastic movie, I like the all 6 of them (however I only like Balboa with the alternative ending). The Creed movies are not great, I saw part of the first one but lost interest.
I like Rocky, Apollo, and Mick. Rocky is a good guy, Apollo is cool, and Mick is funny.
I liked the music and fight a lot. Story is a bit basic but works well. The only thing I disliked about the first film was Rocky losing, but it doesn't ruin the movie at all.

These were iconic movies in the 80s. As with most franchises, they overstayed their welcome as they went on.

'Rocky' is a great film. It's so, so good.
The sequels are...well, they're sequels. II is good, III is okay, IV is meh, V is weak. 'Rocky Balboa' was damn near miraculous, all things considered------I wasn't expecting much out of a phony baloney sequel fifteen years after the last sequel, thirty years after the original, so I certainly wasn't expecting to cry myself hollow twice.
Rocky hits hard, and sometimes his movies hit hard, too. What am I, made of stone?
I haven't seen 'Creed'.

Love 1 & 2. Hated 4. Never saw the others. I hear Rocky Balboa and Creed are good.
And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

The fight in 'Rocky IV' is good, and the training montage is alright (aside from the silly music------------'Heart's on Fire' is pretty lame for the series that gave us 'Gonna Fly Now' and 'Eye of the Tiger'), but everything else is kind of ridiculous.

IV was perfect for its time right before the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The instant those fake prop arms shot at each other & exploded in the opening credits, I knew I was in for a slog. The fights & training were the
only good parts.
And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

A lot of it was kinda corny/dated (like the robot stuff) even for a Rocky movie, but they're all a bit like that anyway. Part of the charm, I think.

I have to say, I love Mick.
...I didn't see Burgess Meredith in much stuff growing up. I pretty much knew him from the old goofy Batman show, and that was it. So I was absolutely floored by his intensity in 'Rocky'. He's just loaded with personality, man. It's clear Mickey respects Rock, loves him like a dad, and wants to help him, even when he's raking him acrost the coals.
And that voice, man. That sandpapery old man rasp. His voice is perfect. Got a growl to rival George C Scott. Like, I don't think there's another person alive who could pull off a line as silly as 'You're gonna eat lightning, and you're gonna crap thunder!', but Burgess made it work. What a champ.
[EDIT: Man alive. That scene at the gym, when Mick rips Rock apart in front of everyone...goosebumps, man, every single time. Rocky pathetically trying to justify working for that ratbag shylock ("It's a living!") and Mickey just unzipping him instantly ("IT'S A WASTE O' LIFE!"). Brutal, man.
