Re: Best Movies from the 2000s
From that list I've seen:
Gladiator (don't remember it, seems cool)
Sin City (8/10)
The Hangover (6/10)
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (8/10)
Fahrenheit 9/11 (don't remember it but I think it was a crappy Michael Moore film)
Avatar (5/10)
Elf (5.5/10)
Kill Bill: Volume 1 (6.5/10)
The 40-Year-Old Virgin (4.5/10)
28 Days Later (7.5/10)
Brokeback Mountain (friend put it on as a joke, didn't finish it)
Shrek (6/10)
District 9 (7/10)
Borat (2/10)
Slumdog Millionaire (6.5/10)
Minority Report (9.5/10)
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (9.5/10)
Memento (8/10)
Shaun of the Dead (6/10)
No Country for Old Men (8.5/10)
Spider-Man 2 (10/10)
Iron Man (5.5/10)
The Dark Knight (7/10)
Casino Royale (5.5/10)
Star Trek (don't remember, seems meh)
Pan's Labyrinth (8.5/10)
WALL-E (7/10)
The Hurt Locker (2/10)
Spirited Away (7/10)
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (don't remember it, seems okay)
Favorite of those was easily Spider-Man 2. Definitely the best superhero movie, and just a very good film generally. Minority Report is really good too, a great "warning" film.
Haven't seen Tropic Thunder but have heard of it, guess I'd watch that one. Based solely on the name though, There Will Be Blood sounds action packed if not a bit generic, maybe that.
The Last Samurai is one of my favorites from the '00s (top 10 in general possibly), it's got a little bit of everything and ties it up nicely. Dinosaur was the last good traditionally animated Disney film (one of the last in general, actually), that deserves a mention. Matrix Reloaded was amazing, non-stop action. There's lots of other good movies too.

Re: Best Movies from the 2000s
^'There Will Be Blood' has very little action. It's a drama--------pretty much a character study. A really good, well-acted character study, but a character study. I mean, you might like it, but...like, if you're hoping for the next 'Tombstone', you're going to be disappointed.
^^Off your 'want to see' list, I'd definitely recommend everything except 'Barbershop', 'Walk the Line' and 'Memento' (not a dig on them--------simply haven't seen them). Think you'd like 'Oldeuboi' and 'In Bruges', too. Former is a crazy Korean revenge story----------latter is a comedic British gangster flick. Good biz.
So here's the ones I've seen. Plus sign indicates a movie I like watching. Minus sign for a movie I'd actively avoid.
Sin City
The Hangover
+Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
+Oldeuboi
+The Royal Tenenbaums
+Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
-Fahrenheit 9/11
-Avatar
-Elf
Serenity
+In Bruges
+Kill Bill: Volume 1
28 Days Later
SuperBad
+Battle Royale
Donnie Darko
-Inglourious Basterds
Shrek
+Coraline
+Shaolin Soccer
Borat
+There Will be Blood
Slumdog Millionaire
+Hot Fuzz
Minority Report
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (- for any of the extended editions)
+Ghost World
+Shaun of the Dead
Children of Men
+No Country for Old Men
+Spider-Man 2
+The Host
+Iron Man
+The Dark Knight
+Casino Royale
Star Trek
Best in Show
WALL-E
Sideways
+Chicken Run
+The Incredibles
+Spirited Away
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
+Let the Right One In
Up
-Finding Nemo
Not on the list...assuming 2000 itself counts as part of the 2000s, I think 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?', 'Castaway' and 'American Psycho' are all dynamite.
I liked 'Black Snake Moan' a lot. My friends didn't really get it. And hey, 'Saddest Music in the World' came out in '03----------it's one of the weirdest, funniest movies I can think of. Ooh, and 'Dhoom' is really good.
