Shows that weren't picked up as a series/never came to be.

One thing I think some people don't realize is how many TV shows never make it past the pilot. Even getting a network to greenlight a pilot for your show is a major accomplishment. For every show that gets picked up, many more shows don't even get past the pitch.

So, let's have a thread discussing shows that didn't make it past their pilot episodes, and faded into obscurity.

This is a clip from the TV show Dog Police, which is based on the song "Dog Police" by the band Dog Police, from the album Dog Police. The song and show are both about the Dog Police. This has Adam Sandler in it.

If you had to describe the premise of that series using exactly two words, what would they be

Clarissa Now was a sequel series to Clarissa Explains It All that Nickelodeon pitched to CBS (at the time, both were owned by Viacom). CBS passed on this pilot, freeing up Melissa Joan Hart to do Sabrina the Teenage Witch instead on ABC:

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

This was ahead of its time. Like, way, way ahead of its time. Hundreds of years hence, Rem Lezar will be worshipped as a deity. It'll be kind of like that utopian future where all mankind is united by the music of Bill and Ted, except...you know, really low-budget and stupid.

I used to watch this show named Keen Eddie at the time when I just became a teenager. I thought it was cool that a detective had my name Eddie, and it was quirky and comedic. There was a running gag where he would talk to this female assistant but he always zoned out and thought she was responding with a sexual innuendo. It was always ambiguous whether she was serious or not, because nobody apparently heard her sexual comments but Eddie, with the exception of one time I think.

It only lasted 13 episodes. In retrospect, some of it was mediocre, but I should rewatch it and really judge again.

There was the Bubsy cartoon pilot. I never watched it but yeah. That's one. Maybe in some alternate universe Bubsy dethroned Mario & Sonic. Maybe now he's a beloved gaming icon while Sonic makes it onto "Forgotten Platformer Mascots" lists, and Mario makes some mediocre hit-and-miss games for his dwindling, bizarrely sexually charged fanbase.

Super Busy Sunshine
Super Bubsy Galaxy
Bubsy & Titus the Fox at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics
Bubsy: Breath of the Wild
Bubsy V: Skyrim
Bubsy's Time Machine

I mean...it sounds to me as though that got picked up as a series. A short series, granted, but still a series.

Animation in pilots is often better than the actual show. I wonder how bad this was gonna get if they approved it.

I can't think of any shows per se but something that didn't get picked up for following movies and just dissolved was that movie, "eragon."

I loved the books. Waited for the movie. Hated the movie. Canceled the rest of the movies they had planned because the movie sucked so much lol.

A good 'Eragon' would have been sick. I'd have loved seein old Stronghammer take some names.

...I think sometimes the world isn't ready. Like, I feel like 'Eragon' movie and 'Golden Compass' movie, neverminding that they weren't great, just kind of fell into this weird period of over-saturation. Like, a third of the way between the LotR flicks and the dawn of GoT, the world didn't need more swords-and-sorcery biz, maybe.

The second I saw who they cast as Roran I mentally checked out in the theater.

I think you're right though. It was an oversaturated market. Shame too. Would have made a kickass series or movie trilogy.

I also think that the forgotten rhelms novels with drizzt do ur'den by RA Salvatore would have made awesome movies or tv shows. The halflings gem, the prequels. All crazy good books.

Well, it's still good. I mean, we can still delight in how rad Roran is, even if the dumb movie has a different idea. We can pick and choose our biz. My Boba Fett will always be the one from "Last Man Standing", and to hell with what Lucas and Disney say.

My version of the hobbit song will always be the one from the cartoon.
