So... anyone actually planning on seeing this?

I mean Donald Glover is looking like a damn snack as Lando so I might have to based on that.

Otherwise, I could do without it.

I’ll see it eventually. Currently, all I know about it is that I saw a traffic sign in Arlington that said “DON’T BE LIKE HAN AND DRIVE SOLO. CARPOOL TO WORK” and I wanted to steer my car into the ditch

I didn't enjoy the last 3 Disney star wars films, so I'm thinking I'm gonna skip out on this one and maybe watch it on DVD later if it gets good reception.

I'm still not decided. I feel the same way I did when Breath of the Wild came out: I still love the franchise, yet my interest in playing/watching new games/movies on my own has waned so much that I feel like if I do it it's more out of a sense of obligation than any actual desire.

You probably shouldn't go if it's gotten to that point, or at least wait until you hear what others have to say about it before going.

I'm only going because despite my opinions on the state of the franchise I did like The Last Jedi and have no real expectations for this film. Heard some people say they have no faith in it due to the director change. Also the summary on Rotten Tomatoes is like "Check your expectations at the door and it'll be good" which is probably the most a summary has ever tried to talk down to me before. But there was a nice train shot in the trailer. I want to see that train.

Yo I've seen it twice. I was pumped for this movie no matter what. I wouldn't have seen it twice if I didn't really enjoy it. It's good old-fashioned Star Wars fun.

Sadly I think it under performed because of how Disney is milking these out to the point where everyone's fatigued. Star Wars isn't seen as something special anymore.

I enjoyed all the references and how everything connects. There's a nice little spin on how Han got the Falcon. I'll always hear the phrase "fair and square" in Empire Strikes Back differently now with a wry smile.

^I think it's underperformance has less to do with Disney milking it and more to do with the horrible backlash from The Last Jedi. If over exposure was a problem, then Marvel movies would not be raking in billions of dollars every year.

I did see the movie, and I while I was not overly fond of the very beginning and the very end, I did enjoy the bits in between. It was the closest thing to old school Star Wars since Return of the Jedi. It's a solid good but not great movie.

I think a lot of people were skeptical about Solo well before Last Jedi was even out. I mean, there are definitely people who have soured on the brand since that movie, but Last Jedi was still a top-10 grossing movie of all time until a few weeks ago. While there was backlash against Last Jedi, I think general audiences liked it enough (from my experiences, most people I know who don't fall into the extremely online fandom circles that either absolutely loved it or absolutely hated it thought it was pretty good and not much more).

There just seems to be a lack of hype behind this movie. The people I know that hated Last Jedi don't want to see this movie. The people I know that loved it really don't care much either. Critics have been merely warm on it, and the people I do know that saw it think it was fine too, so word of mouth isn't great if people were on the fence.

Essentially it's a blockbuster movie that had production problems in the first place, that nobody really was clamoring for, with lukewarm reviews and released right after two other huge "event movies" that had great reviews came out.

Marvel has SO MANY characters and stories and varying atmospheres and moods from SOOO many different source materials - which is why people are keen for the next superhero movie. A Thor movie is completely different from how a Captain America movie feels. Star Wars is a much more contained universe with a specific set of characters and groups and rules all stemming from one idea.
