To celebrate the Empire Strikes Back's 40th anniversary, the movie is returning to theaters on September 25th.

I don't know about this. There's still a pandemic going on.

That's probably why. They know turnout will be bad anyway, so they figure it might as well be bad for an old movie where they don't have expenses to recoup instead of a new one where they do.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

^The one on D+ is the 2004 edition.

Would be great if it were the original, theatrical version.

Even if it weren't a pandemic, I absolutely hate Disney's handling of the older films they own and how they won't let theaters do a night where they run Alien or Die Hard or The Muppet Movie unless it's a widescale event like this, so I probably wouldn't do this anyway.

With the pandemic happening? I have access to a Disney+ password and a 4K TV upstairs. I'm good.

^I've seen theaters do that all the time, though. Last winter, Marcus was doing 90s Disney matinees every weekend for super cheap with minimal fanfare. Our nearest drive-in mostly shows older movies (sometimes paired with a new one for a double feature), including Disney-owned stuff. I've never really heard of Disney not allowing that.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

The stuff I've heard is mostly pertaining to 20th century fox stuff (ironically, the stuff not on disney+) but they do some of that vault s*** with original disney stuff.

I don't see why people would go watch ESB in theaters and risk getting COVID, when they can watch it on Disney+.
