I have it installed out of curiosity but don't use it often.
To me, you are the teacher in the Charlie Brown cartoon.

Removing Dislike visibility is one of the worst things YouTube ever did, and there's a long list.

The 'like/dislike' bar was a useful tool. I've personally never used the dislike button (if I hate a video, I just turn it off), but, like, isn't it useful for others to see a sort of aggregated score? We have things like RottenTomatoes, MetaCritic and Yelp for a reason, and not everyone has the time to read a hundred comments in order to see whether a video is worth watching.

I don't really care. The extensions I use are for functionality, not something as useless to me as the dislike counter.

But it being useful is exactly why it was removed, ironically. Mainly, YouTube makes more money if we watch more videos, so perceiving that one isn't good without watching it probably doesn't improve viewership.Booyakasha wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 11:39 amThe 'like/dislike' bar was a useful tool. Other factors: it is a form of censorship to protect companies, I'm sure ones that regularly pump out garbage games like Ubisoft probably weren't happy their videos are dislike magnets, that can't be good for business. Of course, there's an ideological element at play as well. These are just the most obvious reasons it was removed, but there may be others as well, but it's certainly not for the official reason YouTube stated (which was something to the effect that this protects YouTubers' feelings or whatever).

But on the flipside of that, wouldn't seeing that a video had a high like:dislike ratio make people more likely to watch it?I REALLY HATE POKEMON! wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 6:21 pmBut it being useful is exactly why it was removed, ironically. Maybe, and in my case I'd sometimes watch videos with a lot of dislikes just out of curiosity, like wondering why it's so bad. I think they probably considered that kind of stuff and still figured they were better off without it.Booyakasha wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 3:28 amBut on the flipside of that, wouldn't seeing that a video had a high like:dislike ratio make people more likely to watch it?I REALLY HATE POKEMON! wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 6:21 pmBut it being useful is exactly why it was removed, ironically. At least they haven't hidden likes too. If they're low enough then even without the extension you can kinda gauge how well it is being received. I wonder how that extension works anyway.

(suggestion: check "Frequency Asked Questions" and Discord server for this extension)I REALLY HATE POKEMON! wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 3:40 amAt least they haven't hidden likes too.
