Sonic Warp (just an idea)

3-D Sonic games have camera and control issues. I think a way to avoid those problems, keep the speed, and give it a new feel, is to put him in space, the sky, and the ocean. This way, a fixed camera and simple 3-D controls would simplify gameplay.

The Warp works by teleporting him through big areas, and going through time temporarily while warping (basically just haulin' ass in slow mo). A rock breaks down before you would have hit it, and a ruined bridge reappears before going over a cliff.

Nice eh?

They did that in Shadow the Hedgehog. It's called Chaos Control. I'm not too sure but I think it was done in other titles as well.

It couldn't have been done in either Sonic Adventure or Shadow the Hedgehog (the 3-D ones I played), but maybe I am wrong.

I like this idea. It's not too bad.

You should make a plot to go with it.

Shadow the Hedgehog you just fill your hero meter up and use it. It speeds you through the stage ahead for a bit of time. In Sonic Heroes on Shadow's side it would freeze time and everyone else allowing you to go ahead for some time and I believe that collapsing objects were frozen as well.

As far as the complaints of bad camera angles go, I've never had a problem with them and have easily beaten every game in less than a week.

The idea of skipping ahead isn't really like my idea, nor is delaying things from collapsing.

My idea is more or less, a form of temporary time travel, effecting only the immediate area during Warp.

Example: In space, a meteor shower/belt would pose a threat, so you Warp before they were there, or an item is too close to lava, so you Warp to when it hardens.

The camera does kinda suck man. It needs a Zelda/Mario type camera.

^^And I forget, isn't there a time traveling character, Silver? Could use him.

Ooh you mean going into the past to affect the present. Seems gimicky like WereSonic but it is a possibility.

WereSonic was just, "lol, twilight princess did it, us 2."

And, yeah, that's pretty much the idea. It is well within Sonic's abilities to do things like this anyway, according to the Sonic cartoon. That gives it a a bit of credibility.

I've had no problems with the camera.

The funny thing about Sonic:

He's been so long without a good game, that it doesn't really matter what your story is. If it has good gameplay, then it stands a good chance of working. Otherwise you're back to square one.

Ya know, Link traveled back in time as well to change the present. I could say the same thing about your idea.

You would be much closer if you said Timeshift, or to a lesser extent Blinx what with these games being more recent and all.

Oh, wait, now I remember why I like this idea so much.

Sonic CD.

The idea isn't about time travel, like Zelda and CT, but just quick, context sensitive changes. A gimmick I suppose, but the environments (open 3-D areas like outer space would make 90% of the areas), paired with the Warp would at least make it feel fresh.

The Sonic formula today is: add new gimmick and/or new character. That is a losing formula.

And I can't believe you guys don't find any fault with the camera.

Here's an idea: Create a 2.5D game that's a mix of Sonic Genesis and Sonic Advance, but with a little bit of modern Sonic thrown in.

Although, it seems like that's been done before.

Sonic Rush. Though your idea is unique, due to Sonic Rush turning out to be bland and uninteresting.
