From the games I've played, I'll have to go with Vincent, Terra, Squall, Beatrix, and Auron. My reasons?

Vincent: We all know that by now, don't we?
Terra: I don't care what you say, Terra could beat the living crap out of Shadow. Morph + X-Magic + Ultima + Economizer + Paladin Shield + Illumina Sword = Absolute ass-whooping, no matter who the enemy is. Even if Shadow had all those things, he still can't morph.
Squall: Lionheart + 255 strength + level 100 = About 200,000 damage. More than Omnislash !
Beatrix: The best character in FF9. Climhazzard, Stock Break, Save the Queen. Need I say more?
Auron: The most powerful FFX character. Very strong physical attacks, and good overdrives.

Gogo: Basically, Terra casts Ultima... AND GOGO CASTS IT AGAIN! AMAZING!!!

Frog: Kickass Magic Sword + Control over the element of water + SWEET battle music = Froggy Ownage

Beatrix: Honestly, do you need for me to do the math for you? Stock Break + Climhazzard + Shock + Save The Queen = one fine tuned byaaatch.

Yeah, I was thinking of that. I've just never been able to try it since I've never had anyone survive KotR. Well, I only just got it and I'm only on the second disk on the Junon Huge Materia quest. But I'm sure I'll use it on them when the time comes. Of course, I'd be a retard not to do that.

Orlandu-Excalibur & Chaos Blade, Grand Helm, Maximilian Armor, Germinas Boots

Sabin-Dragon Claws, Genji Helmet, Red Jacket, Paladin Shield, Economizer, Gem Box

Cloud-Ultima Weapon, Crystal Bangle, Ribbon, Quadra Magic+All Magic, All Command, All Summon, W-Summon, W-Magic

How's that for one giant, kick-ass team?

Terra- already listed
Edge- Masamune/Murasame, steal, ninja magic, and throwing
Vincent- Gun, transformations
Squall- Renzokuken ownz j00
Wakka- In my game he's MUCH stronger than Auron

I'll list two different parties.

Number one:
Terra- for all of the reasons previously stated.
Sabin- Bum Rush, 'nuff said.
Crono- Duh.
Ratix- Because Seven Star Twin Slash owns you.

Number two:
Kefka- Because he reached a god-like status. Beat that.
Sephiroth: I don't actually know what he can do, but I'm putting him in hear simply because I have heard people debate that he is just as strong as Kefka. (Although I personally don't believe it.)
Exdeath: He'll rip yo' head off.
Bahamut: The King of all Dragons

Can't go wrong with multiple Edwards.

Kefka- Because he reached a god-like status. Beat that.

Indalecio created a war on a planet which almost wiped out all life. He did this because he didn't want to be disturbed as he was busy using the planet as a means to transport him to is destination. He destroyed the planet in the process and then went on to almost destroy the entire universe. And even then he still managed to take down the other planet he was on with him.

Kefka killed off a good portion of the people of that planet. Indalecio wiped out the people of 2 planets.

Anyway.

Sabin - His physical attacks can level most monsters in one go.
Vivi - His magics can add that extra bit of strength to a party.
Freya - Her Dragoon spells offer a nice blend of defense, support and attack.
Cloud- Good all around fighter. His limits can deal massive damage.
Gogo- Mimics the moves of other characters and can create a moveset of Blitz, Slots, Rage, or anything for that matter.
