The official "complain about how much the names Square gives everything suck" topic.

I hate the names. And I feel like the only place I can make a fuss about them is here, because I know people will agree. :D

First off, a forest should be called a forest. Not a "wood." You can't even use an article to describe "wood."

Next: "Rains" is only plural when used as a verb. I admit, I like to verb words, but I don't like to noun or adjective them. So please stop saying "The Rains" and "The Dry." Call them the dry season and wet season please.

Pinewood and Sandalwood Chops. What the hell is a chop of wood? What the hell does it look like? I know what a chip looks like, but for the love of god no more chops!

The "-a" and "-ga" additions to spell names. Use numbers! They're normal!

Panelo. She's a WOMAN, her name should NOT end in o! O es masculino? Comprenden ustedes, Square?

Adding fancy Greek and Latin sounding names to final bosses. Why can't they just say "Transformed Seymour" or "Transformed Vayne?" They said that stuff about every boss from I through IX. Why change it, Square? IT'S NOT COOL! Speak ENGLISH!

Panelo. She's a WOMAN.
Unless she used to be a man.

But yeah, I think I'd agree with most of those names being stupid.

Especially chops. WTF are chops.

I wonder who came up with the whole -aga thing. And what kind of drug was this person smoking?

I'm sure I have some more of my own to add, but I can't recall any off the top of my head. I'll have to think about it a little.-jay

Wikipedia] seals are typically made of stone, sometimes of wood, and are typically used with red ink or cinnabar paste (Chinese: 朱砂; pinyin: zhūshā). The word 印 ("yìn") specifically refers to the imprint created by the seal. The colloquial name chop, when referring to these kinds of seals, was adapted from a Malay word during the colonization of the Straits Settlements.

So, chops aren't just made up, I suppose.

I assume it makes more sense in the moon language that the Squeenix people speak.

I have another one!

I just started a new game of FFXII, and they call a banquet a "Fete." Okay, that's just wierd. -CSM

Too much FF7. Overused Technology.

Do we really need a topic when there are endless complaints?

BTW, I like the whole "ara" "aga" thing. A lot better than "Fire 1" "Fire 2" etc. Then again, some of us like Crystal Chronicles and FF8, so...

^And some of us don't.

"Necrohol" is another, as is "Estersand." What's wrong with "Eastern Desert?" -CSM

^The fact that "Eastern Desert" sounds idiotic and altogether too plain. Then again, I say that from a fantasy-author's viwepoint, so you probably don't care what I say anyway. Some people like to be creative, and because you find it diffcult to swallow that, you seem to have a problem with fantasy and creativity as a whole. Do you? I don't mind either way, I'm just curious.

I have no complaints, except the fact that FF7 sucks. Otherwise, I have nothing else to register about these games, and I find them adequate.

Oh, and Square doesn't make EVERYTHING suck. (Holds up copies of FF9, FF6, Radiata Stories, Star Ocean 3, Grandia 3, and FF4) See? Even YOU people cannot disagree with those facts, except maybe Grandia.

Otherwise, I have nothing else to say. I expect to be flamed. The fact is, I'm tired of seeing FF12, one of the better games in the series and a definate reprieve from the blech games (FF10, FF7, FF Crystal Chronicles and FF 8) , be picked apart unawares whilst it sits peacefully among the "Adequate FF games" category. I thought people'd at least be appreciative of that much. Oh well.

EDIT: Damn my bad observation skills. I thought the title said something altogether different.

No, I actually like the names Square gives things.

And FF7 still sucks. If any names suck so badly, in Square's mythos, it is most definately "Sephiroth". Nomura can kiss my ass, with his badly drawn characters and sucktastic names.

^Yeah, you listed some non-sucky games there. And FFXII kicks ass, too. It's just the damn translator. We want Ted Woolsey back! -CSM

Combining the words "Eastern" and "Sand" to create the word "Estersand" isn't exactly the most creative thing in the world.
Holds up copies of FF9
I disagree. I didn't like FF9 very much at all. Well, it was OK, but not great.
FF12, one of the better games in the series
I also disagree with that as well. I won't go into why again, you can find plenty of my rants on the game around here.

Personally, I remember liking 10 more than both 9 and 12.

Not that 10 was really great either. But 12 makes me want to defenestrate myself.-jay

[Edit]

Oh yeah, and Necrohol is indeed a silly word. I wonder if they have Necroholics Anonymous.-jay

Bah. Different strokes, I guess. Not like everyone likes the same thing. To me, FF10 makes me desire a quick death every time I see it, and so does FF7, and FF9 is my gaming nirvana. Either way, it doesn't matter, people can enjoy what they want to enjoy.

Wood is a man-made forest. There for I assume that people made it.

A Fete is a type of Banquet. A Fete can also be a Fair as well.

"Transformed Seymour" Seymour in Disguise.

It just make me laugh the last one.

There's nothing wrong with adding -ara and -aga to stronger versions of spell names! Putting a number by them is just dumb. Can you imagine a sorcerer chanting in an ancient tongue and suddenly yelling "Fire Three! Heal Four! Lightning Two!"?

I recently got an old PS and FFIX, and Blank is a weird name. Maybe they couldn't think of a name for him, and somehow the name, or lack thereof, stuck?
