Apparently sequel, but doesn't follow on from the last Disagea. Although, I says that Etna Returns. So could be good.

I myself am looking foward to tis game, considering I wasted so much time of my life on the last one. I doubt it'll be as good as the original, but it will be good game when it's all said and done.

Looks awesome, but after spending so much time on the original I'm not sure if I wanna go through that again.

I'm quite addicted to La Pucelle, which is made by the same people.

Supreme bumpage. Oh well...

With the E3 expo and all, comes lots of game pics, news, movies, etc. On Gamespot, the have a total of 1012 Disgaea 2 pics. Because I'm bored (and stupid), I took a look through all of them. From what I saw, I get the feeling that more people than just Etna are returning:

Unfortunately, nothing is set in stone as of now. This could just be a teaser, but it does look like a pretty good possibility. I would post more, but you guys are probably already hating me for taking up so much space with stuff that's really easy to find yourselves.

ROCK ON!!!

On a side note: I am also tempted to believe that the main character (Adell) is a human rather than a demon. In one of the trailers on Gamespot, they described him like this, "To return his family to their original human forms, this young man struggles to live up to his promise to bravely oppose the evil Overlord Zenon." Again, this is just what I think. I know nothing factual right now.

Of course, you guys probably know more than I do.

You kiddin'? Those pics are awesome, and, speaking for myself, I hadn't seen, heard nor smelled any new 'Disgaea 2' content since reading about it in Game Informer a few months back. (Not that I've been looking, of course...ehhh.)

Source: GameSpot
LOS ANGELES--NIS America's quirky turn-based strategy role-playing sequel Disgaea 2 was in evidence at E3 this year, and it's now almost completely ready for its August 2006 launch. Not a great deal seems to have changed since our first look a couple of months ago, but the most notable difference is that it's all been translated into English now.

The story revolves around the hero, Adell, a human in a world where everybody else has been cursed and turned into monsters by the Overlord Zenon (One character early on in the game muses, "Why is Adell the only human? Because he's the main character?"). Under your guidance Adell, who seems to be a cool and confident martial artist, must battle through to the Overlord, aided oddly enough by the Overlord's own daughter, and end the curse on the land by defeating him.

The gameplay in Disgaea 2 is almost identical to that of the original--classic turn-based square-grid-style combat--and the battles are won and lost based on the tactics you employ. Simple melee attacks combine with more complex magic or healing special moves, with special modifier squares called geo panels. Each \\level cleared gives experience to the characters that survive, with seemingly endless numbers of levels to play through.

The key to the success of the original was in the addictiveness of the leveling, and Disgaea 2 will provide more of the same. One notable addition is the Dark Court, a typically illogical system that summons you to be judged for your crimes.

These crimes can include using too many high-powered attacks, or even leveling up too much. But once you arrive in court, after fighting your way to the correct level, you will automatically be found guilty and rewarded for your sins.

Get it? Neither do we, but it's a good excuse to add a whole bunch of new gameplay, and as the saying goes, "If it ain't broke…" There's also the item world, a neverending series of randomly generated, progressively tougher battles.

Disgaea 2 features both the great 2D anime look of its predecessor as well as its nerdy, laugh-out-loud funny sense of humor. The game is nearly done, so stay tuned to GameSpot for further coverage leading up to our full review.
Article on GameSpot posted a day after my post confirming that Adell is in fact, a human (nice guess, huh?).

Also, they have some nice-looking trailers on GameSpot. The second one on the page is the one to watch.

Well, since there's on;y 2 weeks to go until the target release date (Aug. 29), I felt the need to bring this topic out of the depths to for everyone to post their predictions and expectations for the game. According to numerous magazine and site reviews across the world, the game has gotten pretty damn good reviews. So my expectations for this game are pretty high.

Also, according to a localization update at GameSpot (posted on July 1), the game will feature the same addictive gameplay and hilarious quirky humor as the last one.

All and all, I'm greatly looking foward to this game. I have already preordered the game and am now waiting for it to come in.

Looking nice, but with almost the same graphics and gameplay, what took them so long to release it?

According to the article, Nippon Ichi doesn't rarely continues a franchise that it starts. Rather they continue to make seperate distinct games. My guess is that when they made the first game, they never intended on making a sequel. But since the first Disgaea was so popular, they probably felt inclined to make a sequel.

Bump again.

I got the game a couple days ago, and it seems to have picked up exactly where it left off (gameplay wise). The only noteable difference are the classes and the crime system. In order to obtain a new class (not an uprade of a class), you have to reach the requirements necessary (weapon mastery, story requirements, etc.), but you also have to petition to the Dark Assembly and get it approved. Each class has about a 50% approval rate, so you could be trying for a while if you get unlucky. Now for the crime system. If a character fulfills certain requirements for a crime (EX. kill total, ally kills, etc.) an item called a "subpoena" will be sent to the post office. These items are then taken to the Item World, where inside the item will be a Trial room that you must go to. It is possible to send a character that didn't do the crime to the trial, so just because a person did the crime, doesn't mean they have to pay for it. The character sent to the trial will recieve a felony. In Disgaea, however, a felony is not necessarily a bad thing. The more felonies you have, the cheaper the items at the shop are. If you wish to purge a character of there crimes, you can petition to the Assembly to have them ressurect as a Prinny.

I'm still trying to figure out all the kinks to the felony system (I only have one that was mandatory for the story), so I'm not entirely sure if there's a catch or not. There probably is, so beware.

As of now, I'm on Chapter 9, and I can say that so far, this game is just as good as the last one, so you guys don't need to worry about that.

I'm not really sure. I guess my two favorite characters so far are the main character (Adell) and his "rival", Axel.

Just got the game today. About to go play it.

(Edit: This game is awesomesauce. I quite like Axel too. Already have the druid class, I don't really know how I got him; but I have.
Anyway, the story for those that don't know.
An Overlord called Zenon, cursed another Earth type land world causing all the humans to lose humanity, and turn into demons.
The only person left human is Adell. A human who has watched as all his family slowly being turned into demons, as well as his world slowly turning into a twisted kind of Netherworld. In order to save his family and world. Adell and what little humanity left in his family, use a summoning pact to summon Zenon. Yet instead of Zenon, you receive his daughter, Rozalin. So Adell let's Rozalin lead him back to her father.

Also the english version has Disgaea2's soundtrack on a seperate disc.
